Job Summary

The Head of Data Transformation leads and manages data transformation initiatives within Standard Chartered Bank, ensuring alignment with the bank’s strategic goals, fostering a data-driven culture, and promoting the strategic leveraging of data to drive business value and innovation. This role supports the design and implementation of data platforms, processes, and governance frameworks, promotes data literacy, and drives the adoption of data analytics tools across the organization. Acting as a catalyst for change, the Head of Data Transformation embeds data-driven decision-making, innovation, and continuous improvement in data practices across the organization, working closely with various departments to implement data-driven solutions and best practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy
• Develop and execute data transformation strategies in line with the bank's business objectives.
• Provide overall strategic direction and leadership for the data transformation function.
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement in data solutions and practices across the organization.

Business
• Align data initiatives with business goals to maximize business value from data.
• Foster a collaborative and high-performing culture within the data transformation team.
• Drive data availability, simplify and improve accessibility, and enable insights delivery for informed decision-making and strategic initiatives.
• Support the implementation of robust data governance and management practices to safeguard data integrity and foster trust among stakeholders.
• Develop and execute initiatives to drive a fundamental shift in mindset and behaviours towards a data-driven organization.
• Explore data opportunities and drive initiatives aligned with business objectives to leverage data strategically, ensuring tangible value and organizational growth.

Technical Oversight
• Advise on continuous development and improvement of standards, methods, tools, applications, and processes.
• Support the development and improvement of data platforms and platform processes.
• Promote data literacy and drive the adoption of data analytics tools and practices across the organization.
• Facilitates knowledge sharing and provides technical oversight.
• Test new data technologies to identify use cases and gaps and advise relevant teams on areas of improvement.
• Lead strategic initiatives to maximize business value from data, including the development and implementation of data products and solutions for data value realization.

Key Responsibilities

Processes:
• Develop and support the implementation of processes to make data available and accessible to the organization, collaborating with technical teams as required.
• Support the implementation of data governance frameworks and data management practices, collaborating with the data governance team.
• Develop and support the implementation of curriculums and learning processes to onboard and upskill the organization in data utilization.
• Develop and support the implementation of processes to build an effective data-driven culture, collaborating with transformation teams.
• Develop and support the implementation of processes to innovate using data.
• Develop and support the design and implementation of data solutions and processes to meet business objectives for data value realization, collaborating with technical teams.
• Develop and support the implementation of metrics to track the implementation and realization of data initiatives.
• Develop and drive participation in knowledge sharing forums and present proof of concept solutions.
• Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.

Leadership, People & Talent
• Manage large distributed global teams, ensuring effective leadership, mentoring, and governance across the function.
• Exhibit a visionary and strategic outlook, leading by example to build and maintain the appropriate culture and values.
• Foster a culture of openness, trust, and risk awareness, ensuring ethical, legal, regulatory, and policy-compliant conduct.
• Promote forward planning, prioritization, deadline management, and streamlined workflows, ensuring collaborative, inclusive, effective, and efficient work practices.
• Ensure team members are competent, suitably skilled, and qualified for their roles through ongoing training and development, providing effective supervision to mitigate risks.
• Review team structure and capacity plans to maintain an effective and efficient data transformation program, managing attrition as needed.
• Hire, retain, and develop team members, supporting diversity and inclusion within the Data Transformation team.
• Build succession plans and implement integrated Learning and Development onboarding and upskilling programs for data across the Bank.
• Establish communities of practice (CoP) across the Bank.
• Collaborate with data practitioners and data citizens across the bank for effective implementation of data transformation initiatives.

Skills and Experience

Governance and Risk Management
• Support the development of governance frameworks, including policies and procedures for effective data management.
• Provide support for the implementation of data governance and data management practices.
• Create and advise on technical solution design documentation for product development according to best practice standards.
• Assist team members with technical challenges and provide technical instructions.
• Identify, assess, monitor, control, and mitigate risks related to data transformation initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and other internal policies.
• Promote a culture of risk awareness and ensure effective risk management.

Regulatory & Business Conduct
• Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
• Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
• Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.
• Lead the Data Transformation team to achieve the outcomes set out in the Bank’s Conduct Principles: [Fair Outcomes for Clients; Effective Financial Markets; Financial Crime Compliance; The Right Environment.] *

Key stakeholders
• Influence senior leadership, internal stakeholders, and external partners to ensure the success of data initiatives.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including executives, business unit leaders, country representatives, functions representatives, IT teams, BI teams, advanced analytics teams, HR, and data management teams.
• Engage stakeholders in the development and implementation of data transformation strategies.

Other Responsibilities
• Provide leadership and mentorship to the data transformation team, fostering professional development and growth.
• Encourage cross-functional collaboration, data sharing, and best practice sharing across departments.
• Represent the data transformation function in internal and external forums, promoting the bank's data strategy and capabilities.

Our Ideal Candidate

• 10+ years’ experience in digital transformation, data analytics, organizational change, and data value creation and realization, with extensive leadership experience.
• Notable experience working in a large consulting firm(s) in digital transformation, data analytics, organizational change, and data value creation and realization across various industries.
• Experience in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and technologies.
• Knowledge of data analysis, data architecture, data modeling, data warehousing, data science, machine learning, and ETL techniques and technologies.
• Understanding of banking systems and business models
• Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Proven experience in managing large distributed global teams.
• Certified change manager (Prosci-Adkar) preferred.
• Advanced leadership and strategic planning skills
• Exceptional communication, stakeholder management and collaboration abilities
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and experience in realizing business value from data initiatives.
• Innovation (Drive innovation in data practices, ensuring adoption of latest industry trends and technologies)
• Customer Focus (Understand and prioritize customer needs in all data transformation activities)
• Agility (quickly adapt to changing business needs and environments
• Change Management (lead change initiatives by promoting and implementing new data practices and technologies, ensuring smooth transition and buy-in from key stakeholders)
