SUN-DAC is a non-profit social service agency affiliated with the National Council of Social Service. It serves and cares for persons with disabilities in 3 Day activities centres (Upper Thomson, Choa Chua Kang & Bedok South). Most of our clients are persons with moderate to severe disabilities.

SUN-DAC mission is to help people with disabilities to live each day positively with tailored programmes of constructive activities. It also provides respite for parents and caregivers of people with disability through support and assistance services.

The Training Officer will be responsible for the daily training provided for SUN-DAC’s clients.

Core Responsibilities:

• To use evidence based methods to train and assist adults with disabilities in ADLs (activities of daily living), CLSs (community living skills and pre-vocational skills.
• Attend to the personal needs of these adults and ensure their safety and well-being.
• Complete and submit required documentation in a timely manner.
• Work with a multi-disciplinary team to provide an individual care plan for each client.
• Assists Senior Training Officer to provide guidance and support to Training Officers.

The Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI), Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) Common Data Model (CDM) is the national data standardisation framework adopted by Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) for real world evidence studies. Understanding the pharmaco/nutrico/toxicokinetic behaviour of drugs, chemicals and food ingredients is a fundamental step in assessing the efficacy and safety of these materials. It can be challenging to study such substances directly in human subjects, while animal models lack direct translatability to humans due to inherent differences in species biology. One promising strategy is the use of physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modelling to predict the local tissue and systemic exposure of these substances. We have developed in-house in vitro and in silico tools to model chemical absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) in humans using data generated from in vitro assays. We apply these tools to predict pharmacokinetic profiles in different settings, ranging from oral or transdermal administration to studying special populations such as pregnant women, for a variety of substances including pharmaceuticals, food ingredients, environmental contaminants, essential micronutrients and microbial metabolites. These capabilities are further enhanced with state-of-the-art, enabling technologies such as the SHIME® intestinal digestion simulator and spatial mass spectrometry imaging.

The candidate in this position will be expected to be involved in the following activities:

• Literature search to extract relevant ADME data for chemicals of interest
• Perform in vitro absorption, transporter, metabolism, fraction unbound and other related ADME assays
• Quantify membrane protein, metabolic enzyme and xenobiotic concentrations within biological samples using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) instruments
• Integrate appropriate in vitro and in silico data into PBPK models to predict the ADME of chemicals

The Research Officer will oversee the progress of the research study under the supervision of the Principal investigator. They will perform a variety of research activities which include planning and execution of experiments for functional validation, leading up to a scientific publication.

Main Duties:

1. Tissue Logistics

• Tracking of biological samples received in the lab pertaining to the study
• Collection of patient samples (FFPE, Tissue, WBC,DNA or RNA) from Pathology
• DNA/RNA extraction from frozen tissue or FFPE
• Submission of DNA/RNA samples to external sequencing partner

2. Cell culture

• Generation of cell line and/or organoids from tissue collected from the study
• Maintenance of these cell lines and/or organoids in culture

3. Perform tasks and support all aspects of the research project

• Performing literature reviews when required
• Plan and execute experiments for functional validation
• Conduct accurate monitoring, documenting and reporting of experimental result and research findings
• Evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare oral presentations/scientific manuscripts/ literature for publication
