Job Description

Positions are available for Post-doctoral Fellows, Research Assistants, and Ph.D. students in the research group of Dr. Soh Siow Ling, at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).

The research of the group is highly interdisciplinary and involves soft functional matter, electrostatics, and dynamics (e.g., transport). The research usually involves molecules, polymeric molecules, bulk polymers, and interfaces of polymers. Other types of advanced materials (e.g., inorganic materials) are also considered. The research typically involves a combination of chemistry, materials science, physics, and engineering.

A major area of focus is the separation of charge at interfaces of matter (e.g., solid, liquid, and gas). Phenomena related to interfacial charge separation are very poorly understood; hence, there are tremendous opportunities for fundamental discoveries and development of novel applications. One project in particular is the coupling of advanced types of materials (e.g., including inorganic materials) and charge separation for harvesting energy from nature. Another example involves antistatic surfaces for preventing the adhesion of dust particles on surfaces.

Another area of focus involves functional polymers and stimuli-responsive systems for developing intelligence in materials.

The group aims to publish highly novel and impactful research works. Projects in the group usually involve unique research themes and strong fundamentals, including discovery and understanding of natural phenomena. Positions are available for Post-doctoral Fellows, Research Assistants, and Ph.D. students in the research group of Dr. Soh Siow Ling, at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).

The research of the group is highly interdisciplinary and involves soft functional matter, electrostatics, and dynamics (e.g., transport). The research usually involves molecules, polymeric molecules, bulk polymers, and interfaces of polymers. Other types of advanced materials (e.g., inorganic materials) are also considered. The research typically involves a combination of chemistry, materials science, physics, and engineering.

A major area of focus is the separation of charge at interfaces of matter (e.g., solid, liquid, and gas). Phenomena related to interfacial charge separation are very poorly understood; hence, there are tremendous opportunities for fundamental discoveries and development of novel applications. One project in particular is the coupling of advanced types of materials (e.g., including inorganic materials) and charge separation for harvesting energy from nature. Another example involves antistatic surfaces for preventing the adhesion of dust particles on surfaces.

Another area of focus involves functional polymers and stimuli-responsive systems for developing intelligence in materials.

The group aims to publish highly novel and impactful research works. Projects in the group usually involve unique research themes and strong fundamentals, including discovery and understanding of natural phenomena. We are seeking to recruit a Research Fellow at the Mechanobiology Institute, NUS, to join Dr. Yusuke Toyama's research group. Candidates with experience in immunology and cell mechanics are welcome to apply.
