Overview: The Commvault Backup Engineer will be a vital member of our Enterprise Storage, Servers & Virtualization team. This team provides operational and maintenance support for the firm’s physical and virtual environments, as well as our enterprise storage systems located across the United States and overseas. The team is responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle management of equipment at the firm’s three data centers.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform upgrades for the Commvault backup environment, including Commvault servers, proxy servers, software installation, and platform upgrades.
Recover data from various threats using backup technology.
Understand and implement backup data lifecycle management policies.
Configure data replication across sites for redundancy and perform disaster recovery.
Manage backup administration tasks, including console backup and monitoring of the backup environment.
Provision new systems, including hardware-based servers and virtual servers in a mixed Microsoft Hyper-V 2016/2019/2022 clustered and un-clustered environment.
Execute server upgrades, migrations, data center maintenance, and overall system/data migrations.
Provide assistance to other administrators as needed to maintain over 1,300 Microsoft Windows Servers in production.
Compile and maintain documentation on on-premises and Azure Commvault backup solutions and virtual infrastructure technologies.
Troubleshoot and manage incident resolution with direct vendor support when needed (e.g., EMC, Dell, NetApp, Microsoft, Commvault, and other vendors).
Administer, tune, and support complex hardware and software environments, including EMC VNX Family of Arrays, Dell DAS storage arrays, Dell Servers, Brocade/EMC Fiber switches, NetApp SSD, NVMe & Hybrid Arrays, and Dell/EMC Enterprise NAS solutions (ISILON/PowerScale).
Administer EMC Recover Point Appliances and disaster recovery practices.
Perform periodic disaster recovery/data recovery scenarios.
Provision all storage assets, including SAN fabric zoning.
Develop and utilize PowerShell scripts as needed.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies: Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware 7.x and above.
Proficient in Microsoft Windows Server and related technologies.
In-depth knowledge of Commvault and backup technologies.
Understanding and ability in PowerShell scripting.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.

Flexible schedule; position requires weekend and after-hours work.
Ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines.

Qualifications & Prior Experience:
Minimum 5+ years of systems administration experience in a Microsoft Windows environment.
Minimum 3+ years of systems administration experience in a VMware environment.
Minimum 3+ years of storage systems operations experience, preferably with NetApp or EMC/Dell Isilon.
Minimum 5+ years of experience with x86 physical servers.
Data center experience is required.
Knowledge of Commvault backup/recovery is a plus.
