MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Responsible to the Chief Engineer for ensuring that Engine Room operations are conducted as per the requirements of the Technical procedures and other applicable safety & security procedures contained within the VMS. In-charge for implementation of safe working practices within the Engine Dept as a member of the Shipboard Management Team onboard vessel operating in Singapore waters and in International waters.

The Second Engineer deputizes for the Chief Engineer in the event of his absence, accident or illness. In such a case, a Log Book entry must be made.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Second Engineer is responsible to the Chief Engineer for:

· Preparation of the main propulsion and other Engine Room plant for sea

· Effective and efficient day-to-day operations of the main propulsion and other Engine Room plant

· Organisation and supervision of the Engine Room watch keepers/UMS duty engineers
