Summary
This role is responsible for managing the delivery of all sustainability related disclosures (in conjunction with group finance, CABM and other stakeholders) as well as driving the strategic sustainability and ratings agenda within the bank globally, including planning, execution and associated governance. This role provides an opportunity to shape and deliver the Group’s approach, working with senior colleagues across a wide range of functions and engaging with external stakeholders to ensure the Group meets external requirements and expectations on sustainability disclosures.
Responsibilities
· Support the Global Head of Sustainability Strategy and Net Zero and the Head of Global Sustainability Engagement and Disclosures on all elements of sustainability strategy planning, execution and associated governance
· Lead team to ensure timely delivery around all sustainability submissions including the annual submissions for our key Environmental, Social and Governance agencies (such as, MSCI, Sustainalytics, SASB, GRI, WEF, UN PRB, CDP and WDI) and disclosures for stakeholders including civil society organisations, and progressively increasing external assurance of the Group’s sustainability disclosures
· Work with Sustainability Forum members and functions across the Group to enhance and improve the Group’s public disclosures over time via ESG agencies and the Group’s own channels
· Monitor and bring emerging disclosure requirements, both regulatory and industry-led, into existing or new infrastructure
· Serve as senior control on all external disclosures, including within various countries in which SCB operates
· Envision and initiate corporate plans to improve ESG ratings / indices
· Identifying, measuring and managing stakeholder perception (including greenwashing) inherent to the business model, strategy and operating environment for Sustainability-related disclosures
· Act as the subject matter expert on reporting frameworks (GRI, SASB, WEF) and ensure Group’s reporting is aligned to these frameworks
· Lead the Group’s participation in relevant external platforms and initiatives on sustainability reporting
· Lead dialogue with stakeholders where the specific focus is on disclosure, such as ShareAction’s Workforce Disclosure Initiative (WDI)
· Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters
· Project manage the Group’s participation in time-bound disclosure frameworks such as the CDP, and Workforce Disclosure Initiative (WDI)
· Provide comprehensive input to development of the Group’s Sustainability Reporting Suite of annual disclosures (e.g. Annual Report, Sustainability Summary, TCFD report, Modern Slavery Statement) to ensure these contain the disclosures expected by stakeholders
· Monitor reporting standards and best practice including the International Integrated Reporting Council, Global Reporting Initiative and other UK, EU and HK specific requirements to ensure that the Bank continues to report and disclose information consistent with industry best practice and to ensure that the Bank has appropriate public disclosures for sustainability indices
· Provide support and share best practice with country teams that are required to release local sustainability reports and disclosures to ensure alignment with Group disclosures and best practice
· Lead on the Group’s self-assessment against the UN’s Principles for Responsible Banking
· Oversee the Group’s response to reactive information requests as received, such as Request for Proposals (RfP), due diligence questionnaires (DDQs), and reporting arising from the Group’s participation in membership bodies and platforms
· Support the Head, Sustainability Engagement and Disclosures in producing internal insight materials on emerging sustainability themes based on regulations, reporting and disclosure, and help to engage senior internal stakeholders to build the Group’s capacity to respond
People Management
· Lead a diverse team of 4 individuals – driving their specialized agendas and individual growth
· Ensure the provision of ongoing training and development tailored to the function, and that all critical functions are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles with a succession plan in place
· Employ, engage, and retain high quality people
· Set and monitor job descriptions and objectives for direct reports and provide feedback and rewards in line with their performance against those responsibilities and objectives
Our Ideal Candidate
· Knowledge of key sustainability issues and their relevance to the banking sector gained through academic studies in sustainability and economic development
· 10 + Years of working experience on sustainability related topics
· Higher-level degree (e.g. master’s degree)
· Demonstrable experience building and managing a multi-country and multi-region programme in a matrix organisation
· Strategic mindset to map complex landscapes including emerging trends
· Deep understanding of sustainability disclosures requirements for a leading financial institution
· Excellent Presentation skills with the ability to simplify the complex
· Experience in financial reporting, such as Annual Report or TCFD
· Sharp business acumen (including ability to assess risk and appropriate levels of return), strong leadership qualities, excellent interpersonal skills and multi-cultural awareness and sensitivity
· Flexible and resilient, able to work in ambiguous situations to deliver on time and under pressure
