JOB SPECIFICATION
To support the positioning of MUFG as a lead bank in providing and anticipating key sector themes, insights on opportunities and solving strategic and financing challenges for our clients across corporate and investment banking, with a focus on client engagement, opportunity identification and debt financing/capital structuring.
1. The Emerging Energy Solutions (“EES”) team within Sector Coverage will focus on new and emerging energy technologies as part of supporting our client’s energy transition. EES is expected to play a key role in identifying and developing tailored financing solutions for emerging fuels (e.g. Bio and E-Fuels / SAF / Ammonia / Hydrogen), emerging energy storage solutions, clean transport (using emerging fuels and technologies), and Carbon Capture Utilisation & Storage (CCUS). EES has a regional mandate across APAC.
2. EES will collaborate closely with our Project Finance teams across Oceania and Asia and this close working relationship will cover coordinated regional client engagement, opportunity identification, commercial viability and risk analysis and importantly improve origination, execution and distribution of transitional energy solutions for our clients in this sector.
3. The successful candidate will actively drive strategic financing solutions with a key focus on client engagement, opportunity initiation, analysis and working as a cohesive team with project finance, debt capital markets and ESG Finance colleagues for structuring and execution of deals. Supporting credit decision making through enabling better understanding and monitoring of deal risk will also be an important element of the role. The EES team will also look to develop collaborative opportunities with our partner banks, including Morgan Stanley, across the region.
4. Working with the Head of EES, the successful candidate will proactively engage a senior level of clients in conjunction with Sector Coverage team members, coverage bankers and Product Office (PO) teams. The PO teams include, for example:
- Project finance / Leveraged and Acquisition Finance / ECA finance
- Debt capital markets
- ESG Finance
- Ratings advisory
- Financial markets risk management
- Treasury and transaction services
5. The EES team will look to tailor and package the above product offerings working with the Relationship Managers on a Go-to-Market offering for specific key clients.
6. As part of Sector Coverage, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to actively support strategic corporate and M&A debt financings across the Sector team.
7. Develop sector expertise particularly in new and emerging energy technologies space including technologies that are more likely to be successful or commercially viable, expected winners, trends, potential deals. Ensure EES insights dashboard is up to date and accurately captures team perspectives on new energy sector, and helps MUFG as a group proactively position for key upcoming opportunities.
8. Contribute to sector and PO budgets and drive revenue, returns and portfolio allocation.
9. Link with MUFG stakeholders globally to facilitate information exchange, idea generation, contribute to strategy development and solution delivery. Contribute to establishment of the MUFG profile as lead bank for new and emerging energy technologies and decarbonisation (conference, branding etc.).
10. Contribute to development of the MUFG knowledge hub including technical details, credentials and proposal materials, technical advisors, and marketing. Provide oversight and leadership to EES Analyst/Associate.
EES will reside within Sector Coverage APAC. The Sector Coverage team covers multiple industry verticals and undertakes key roles within Global Corporate and Investment Banking APAC, including (1) engaging senior client executives with thematic and scalable cross-sector insights; (2) originating event driven opportunities with local coverage, product and distribution partners as well as for leading execution of corporate M&A debt financings; and (3) engaging with internal stakeholders to promote optimal risk-return outcomes across the portfolio.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Educational qualification
- Minimum bachelor’s degree
Work Experience
- Demonstrated high performance from top tier institutional or investment banking roles with a focus on specialised finance and/or corporate finance. Prior deal experience in energy, clean tech or industrial sectors are a positive.
- Minimum 6 years’ experience as a key member of marketing and deal execution teams in banking industry
- Experience in delivering strategic sector knowledge and cross-products solutions.
- Track record of successfully driving the identification, structuring and execution of financing transactions, and has developed a network of relationships in their sector.
- Practical knowledge of corporate and/or project financing and sector-based insights leading through to cross-product solutions.

- Demonstrated ability to quickly understand and articulate what is required and to deliver on time critical deal situations, with a strong attention to detail.

- A strategic thinker, with strong initiative, and a proactive idea generator.
- Strong up-to-date knowledge of the financing and risk markets of new energy.
