The decarbonisation of the steel industry between now and future is likely to change the iron ore supply chain as we know it. The next 20 years will see the largest and fastest change in iron and steelmaking technology the industry has seen in decades. Positioning Rio Tinto as sustainability leaders is key in realising our ambitions, strategy and growth agenda. The Steel Decarbonisation team is at the forefront of this and will shape pathways for Rio Tinto’s iron ores in a decarbonised iron and steelmaking future.
The purpose of the Rio Tinto Steel Decarbonisation (RTSD) team is to:
- Protect the long-term value of Rio Tinto’s iron ore through development and scale up of cost-effective technologies that utilise our iron ores in the future low-carbon steel industry
- To position Rio Tinto to participate in the nascent green iron market, and
- To provide steel decarbonisation analysis and intelligence to support decisions on Rio Tinto’s future iron ore resource portfolio, product strategy, and renewable energy development.
We are recruiting for a Senior Advisor Strategy Steel Decarbonisation to join our team in Singapore!
Reporting to the Senior Manager Steel Decarbonisation Strategy, you will be:
- Continuously enhance and shape the Steel Decarbonisation narrative by synthesising external and internal insights and demonstrating alignment between our aspirations and the dynamic landscape of market and customer expectations.
- Translate evolving market trends, competitive intelligence and emergent opportunities into pivotal strategic insights that inform our strategy and narrative. Contribute to driving our programme forward with foresight and purpose.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to pinpoint and assess potential avenues of growth. Support project teams to assess new markets, partnerships and models that help achieve our strategic objective
- Independently lead various initiatives related to steel decarbonisation, ensuring effective project management and timely delivery of outcomes.
- Engage with senior leaders and stakeholders to gather inputs, seek feedback, and build consensus around strategic initiatives, fostering alignment and collaboration.
- Work closely with regional teams and stakeholders to prepare materials for annual planning and reporting processes and cycles, including Annual Report and Climate Change Report etc
- Provide support in orchestrating key strategic workshops, offering your expertise to shape the trajectory of our team's endeavors.
- Work closely with communications, marketing, and branding to development communication collateral for our key projects. Ensuring we have a compelling summary of our key projects, their value and milestones.
- Develop succinct and well written papers to effectively communicate project updates, key decisions, and business cases to the Executive Team, Programme Sponsors and Board as required.
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
- Tertiary education
- At least 5 years of progressive experience across market analysis, research, or sales and marketing related.
- Experienced in bulk commodity environment
- Strong analytical skills, in tandem with presentation abilities
- Assertive and results driven
- Able to influence and work with senior stakeholders within one’s area of work
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Prior focus/consulting experience in researching and understanding the carbon footprint of steel industry
- Prior iron ore and iron and steel industry exposure, ideally in the Asian region
- Knowledge in various steel making techniques
- Experienced in data analytics
