Lab Technician

Our client is a leading global manufacturer of polymer. They are currently seeking for Lab Technician to join their chemical manufacturing facility.

The role of the Lab Technician includes:

· Analytical Testing: Perform routine and non-routine analysis of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products using Rubber, Solid, Slurry, and Gas Chromatography techniques to ensure adherence to quality specifications.

· Instrument Operation: Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment, including chromatographs, spectrophotometers, balances, and other analytical instruments.

· Sample Preparation: Prepare samples for analysis by following established protocols, including sample extraction, dilution, filtration, and other sample preparation techniques.

· Data Collection and Analysis: Record and interpret test results accurately, maintaining detailed and organized documentation of laboratory activities and data.

· Method Validation: Assist in the development and validation of new analytical methods or modification of existing methods to improve efficiency and accuracy.

· Quality Control: Follow established quality control procedures to ensure the reliability and accuracy of laboratory results, including proficiency testing and equipment calibration.

· Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, maintaining a clean and safe working environment. Comply with regulatory requirements and standard operating procedures.

· Troubleshooting: Assist in troubleshoot instrument or method-related issues, working collaboratively with laboratory staff and technical support to resolve problems.

· Equipment Maintenance: Assist in routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments, ensuring their proper functioning and accuracy.

· Inventory Management: Assist in the inventory management of laboratory supplies, chemicals, and reagents, ensuring an adequate supply for ongoing operations.

· Continuous Improvement: Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives, suggesting and implementing process improvements and efficiency enhancements.

Job Requirement:

· Education: Diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

· Experience: 1-3 years of experience working in a chemical plant laboratory, preferably in the manufacturing industry, with hands-on experience in Rubber, Solid, Slurry, and Gas Chromatography analytical techniques.

· Detail-Oriented: Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in performing laboratory tests, documenting results, and following standard operating procedures.

· Team Player: Capable of working effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment, collaborating with colleagues and communicating results and issues clearly.

· Adaptability: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and shifting priorities effectively.

Responsibilities:

• Support the Mechanical maintenance team for plant and equipment maintenance

• Conduct scheduled plant inspections to ensure compliance with maintenance regimes and safety regulations.

• Coordinate all Mechanical Maintenance programs, including PM and CM activities.

• Manage and optimize planned maintenance during minor and major overhauls and inspections.

• Analyze failures of mechanical systems and components, recommending corrective actions and conducting troubleshooting.

• Evaluate and implement plant improvement projects to enhance reliability and performance.

• Supervise maintenance contract works and prepare work procedures for all maintenance activities.

• Manage equipment parts and services procurement, adhering to technical specifications.

• Track department budget expenditure against approved allocations.

• Effectively support and manage the maintenance team, fostering a culture of safety and excellence in the industry.

Requirements:

• Minimum 3-4 years of relevant experience in plant maintenance in Oil and Gas industries

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

• Sound Mechanical Engineering Maintenance Knowledge

• Knowledge of safety and statutory requirement will be an advantage.

• Self-motivated team player with analytical mind, strong planning and problem-solving skills.

The jobholder is responsible for all facilities related works including repair and maintenance of Econ facilities. He is also responsible for conduct of regular checks for any defects or irregularity in the electrical system, nurse call system, machines, furniture that are within the nursing homes.

Maintenance of facility

• Assist in the facilities operation, management and maintenance for the group
• Inspect and ensure all services and systems are in compliance with the statutory requirements of the relevant authorities
• Conduct monthly building inspection as scheduled

Repair and maintenance

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance works as scheduled
• Attend to all fault or service call requests for AMCV, building, electrical, plumbing & sanitary
• Attend to breakdowns and users’ daily feedback and service requests as and when required
• Carry out minor installation, repairs and replacement works whenever needed
• Check and rectify defective equipment and built-in components
• Troubleshoot and repair or recommend corrective actions for all fault call requests
• Perform all preventive maintenance as instructed and scheduled

Vendor Management

• Source and recommend contractors/vendors for repair/rectification works
• Manage and supervise vendors and contractors, and ensure they carry out the assigned works according to company’s set terms and conditions

Inventory and Resource Management

• Create ePR for purchases, repair works as instructed
• Assist in procurement and purchasing of services and parts
• Maintain adequate and accurate inventory control for all company’s assets, spare parts, equipment, tools and instruments as required

Supervisory

• Provide supervision to the respective centre’s handy man as and when the need arise

Administrative

• Assist Manager with collation of quotations and provide report when necessary
• Monitor and general utilities report e.g. electricity bill, water bills and submit to the respective Centre Managers end of the month
• Maintain and update the regular maintenance report in One Drive – e.g. Lift service report, generator service, etc

Assist with General Duties

• Perform general housekeeping and service activities
• Involve with new facilities upgrading and enhancement works

Other Duties

• Assume any other additional responsibilities as assigned by Manager, Facilities or Head of Department (HOD)
• Prepared to be posted for overseas assignment when the need arises

Requirements

• Minimum GCE ‘N’ Levels
• Candidate with NITEC Skills Certificates in ACMV or M&E services has an added advantage
• Candidate must at least one year of relevant hands-on experience in troubleshooting ACMV and M & E faults
• Knowledge of mechanical and electrical system
• Must be computer literate
• Hands-on person

Summary:

Additional Information:
