We are looking for an entrepreneurial Incubation Manager as part of our newly established Growth team within Innovation, Science and Technology Group (ISTG).

Reporting to the Head of Growth & Ventures and working in a challenging and exciting environment within Rio Tinto’s Innovation, Science & Technology Group, you will:
- Lead the Incubation team, helping set its vision, strategy, and objectives
- Identify and evaluate new business opportunities, technologies, and trends relevant to the mining industry and future of Rio Tinto
- Manage the incubation process from ideation to proof of concept, and thereafter ultimately to commercial scale-ups
- Work as one team with Ventures, helping generate projects from our start-up partners to help them scale and deliver impact
- Bring together and collaborate with Product Group, Functional and R&D stakeholders to leverage the capabilities and expertise relevant to each project
- Design and implement measures to assess and report on progress and value creation
- Contribute to a team culture of inclusiveness and foster collaboration, and be a relentless supporter of risk-taking by “playing to win” vs. “playing not to lose”
- Communicate complicated ideas in a simple way (verbal, written, slides) to a variety of internal and external stakeholders and senior leaders
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Degree in a technical discipline
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Outstanding communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
- A minimum of 10 years of professional experience, with a proven track record in start-ups, incubation, venture capital or similar
- Strong understanding of valuations, ideally in the context of heavy industry innovation
- Excellent leadership and management skills focused on leading by example
