Job Description
The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Assistant position in Dr Mohammad Alfatah’s lab, part of Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The lab focuses on discovering anti-aging interventions to delay ageing and chronic disease onset, increase healthspan and improve life quality. Appointments will be on a 1-year contract in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.
Purpose of the post
The Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible to and work closely with Dr Mohammad Alfatah to provide support in research projects with a specific focus on discovering chemical (drugs, natural products, metabolites, etc) and genetic anti-aging interventions. This includes assessing the effectiveness of potential compounds in various age-related disease models.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform daily basic chemical and genetic high-throughput screening in yeast and human cells, molecular biology experiments related to DNA, RNA, protein and cell culture work.
- Conduct literature searches, experimental plans, and data analysis independently and reliably.
- Oversee the general management of the lab including managing inventories of chemical, cell lines and instruments.
- Provide administrative support to the project, maintain communication and collaboration with other members of the research team.
- Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Biomedical Science, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline.
- Able to work independently and in a team as well, self-motivated with initiative and keen to learn new techniques.
- Previous experience in laboratory work, particularly in cell culture and in molecular biology techniques is preferred.
- Experience in bioinformatics, particularly with programming skills in Python and R, would be a plus.
