What will you do?

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Prepare resources, make up solutions, assemble apparatus, and deliver equipment to labs as required;
• Play an active role in developing and trialing new practical activities;
• Assist and demonstrate in practical classes as required;

• Carry out risk assessments of own activities and practical as requested by teachers, seeking advice when necessary;
• Provide advice on safe practice and monitoring activities to ensure there are followed;
• Assist in the management, use, and provision of resources, including books and teaching materials;
• Maintain class sets of laboratory resources (including stationery);
• Service and clean equipment and resources as required;
• Carry out stocktaking of equipment, chemicals and stationery, in order to maintain appropriate stock of apparatus and consumables;
• Fix broken Science equipment. If not possible, organize for it to be fixed or replaced;
• Monitoring access to science laboratories and prepare areas;
• Attend additional training as required;

The successful candidate will possess:

• A Certificate or Diploma in a Science discipline would be an advantage;
• A minimum of two year's work experience in a laboratory or engineering setting or similar;
• Experience of working with electrical and laboratory equipment;
• Experience of undertaking risk assessments, implementing and monitoring health and safety plans.
• Experience of working as a laboratory technician in a school or college setting would be an advantage;
• The ability to follow procedures and guidelines;
• Fluency in English and the ability to communicate effectively with students and colleagues;
• A flexible approach to work, and the willingness to contribute to the wider team;
• The ability to use own initiative to undertake required tasks.
