SJI International Elementary School is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and collaborative Vice Principal to have oversight of pastoral matters at the school, manage student and staff well-being, as well as initiate and drive school development and improvement.The successful candidate will be someone with proven experience of change management, team building and innovation in various international school settings. The ideal candidate will have developed systems and skills to successfully manage student behaviour and work with parents around the challenges students face. S/he should have training and leadership experience of Safeguarding and Child Protection in an international school. We are seeking a leader who has a deep understanding of cultural diversity and Global Citizenship and the ways in which this is embedded across the curriculum, school policies and processes, and community. Experience of work in a Bilingual School is an advantage, as well as an understanding of what it means to have bilingual and multilingual students within the school. Ideally this position would start in January 2025, although there may be some flexibility in this. Longlisted candidates will be contacted during the week of July 21, 2024 and interviews (in person or online) will most likely be scheduled in the week of August 4, 2024. Following that a shortlist of candidates will be created and a more extensive interview process followed. Where possible the final interview will be done in person.
Job Purpose
● Enhance the quality of pastoral care and well-being for students and staff
● Ensure the smooth running of the school through effective planning, implementation and evaluation of school structures and procedures as a member of the SLT
● Identify the priorities for continuous improvement and raising standards in the Elementary School as a member of the SLT
● Develop policies and practices and ensure that efficient resources are available to achieve the school’s Vision, Mission and Values
Key Responsibilities
● Oversee the Pastoral Team in collaboration with the AP for Student Success in order to ensure that all students reach their personal best academically and terms of well-being, social, emotional and physical development
● Oversee the provision of opportunities for students to experience leadership, agency and service alongside the AP Enrichment e.g. House System, Student Council and Service projects
● Lead and oversee policies, systems and structures in the school that support student Well-being and contribute to Positive Education at the school
● Ensure that school policies promote self-discipline and positive behaviour underpinned by the Virtues Project
● Lead investigation and resolution of serious disciplinary incidents ensuring effective communication and recording of events and outcomes
● Act as the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead and in this capacity ensure that robust policies, procedures and training for safeguarding and child protection are provided for all staff
● Lead the Health and Safety policies and procedures e.g. buses, campus safety
● Set up and support systems that address staff well-being
● Monitor student attendance and address issues of punctuality and attendance with parents and the relevant agencies
● Support the Principal in providing a clear direction for the development of the school and as a member of the SLT prepare, implement and monitor the school’s strategic development plan
● Co-lead with SLT the processes towards Quality Assurance and school accreditation
Specific Tasks and Duties
Strategic Leadership
● Lead on safeguarding and Child Protection across the Elementary School and liaise with the Pastoral Team, outside agencies and High School Pastoral Team
● Manage the day to day use of CPOMS, and safeguarding issues that arise
● Work in collaboration with the Principal to review policies and procedures and identify areas for improvement and development to be addressed through the Elementary
Strategic Improvement Plan
● Work alongside the SLT and facilitate the ongoing process of EduTrust accreditation
● Provide induction for teachers and staff new to the school ensuring that they have comprehensive knowledge of the school’s discipline, positive behaviour and safeguarding policies and procedures
● Oversee the process of Quality Assurance process within the school alongside the Principal
● Support the accreditation of the Elementary School (EduTrust/CIS) and co-lead the process as a member of the SLT
● Provide cover of classes where teachers are absent and liaise with outside agencies when needed
● As a member of the SLT, identify staffing needs and be a part of the team that identify, interview and select teachers to join the SJII staff
● When required work in collaboration with the Admissions Department on the recruitment of students.
Curriculum and Pedagogy
● Develop and review the school’s Well-being curriculum in collaboration with the APs for Curriculum and Assessment
● Provide opportunities for teachers and staff to consider their role in supporting the Well-being of students and how to develop this further through the curriculum or other activities
● Oversee the transition of students when they first come into the school, as they move into
new grade levels and as they graduate to High School, liaising with the relevant staff and informing parents about the process
Assessment and Reporting
● Possess thorough knowledge of the school’s Assessment policies and procedures
● Oversee the assessment of students during the AWE survey and work alongside teachers to analyse results and build action plans in response to these
● Review and update the assessment policies, procedures and calendar as needed
● Lead discussions with teaching teams around assessment strategies and best practice
● Guide teachers in the administration of assessments and the recording and reporting of assessment data
● Lead discussions around learning data and how this drives teaching and learning
● Provide workshops on assessment and evaluation for both teachers and parents as needed
Collaboration and Relationship Management
● Conduct weekly meetings with the Pastoral Team to gain oversight into issues pertaining to student Well-being and behaviour and how these are being addressed
● Conduct weekly meetings with the AP Student Success and EAL Coordinator to gain oversight into issues pertaining to student support and enrichment
● Conduct weekly meetings with the AP Enrichment to gain oversight into special events and activities that are proposed, planned or happening with an emphasis on Health and Safety, staffing and organisation
● Identify the professional needs of the staff and, in response to these, lead meetings, PLCs or training sessions, or suggest relevant external PD opportunities
● Work with teachers, parents and outside agencies in addressing issues of student behaviour and discipline
● As a member of the SLT, update the Leadership Team regarding student Well-being and behaviour issues
Resource Management
● Manage assigned budgets, showing fiscal responsibility based on priorities for expenditure for areas of responsibility
● Ensure that the range, quality and use of all available resources is monitored, evaluated and reviewed to improve teaching and learning
● Ensure that resources are organised and managed to provide an efficient, effective and safe learning environment
● Assist in the recruitment and placement of teachers, and identify any additional or alternative staffing needs
● Oversee the assignment of teachers to the Pastoral and Student Success teams and monitor the effectiveness of this in reaching their goals
Communication
● Communicate with teachers, effectively and in a timely manner, matters pertaining to student Well-being, behaviour and pastoral matters
● Ensure that parents are well informed about matters pertaining to their child’s Well-being and behaviour and how any issues are being addressed
● Engage parents and outside agencies as partners when addressing student issues regarding safeguarding, Well-being and behaviour
● Report to SLT any matters related to Well-being, pastoral matters or behaviour
Self-Evaluation and Quality Assurance
● Participate in the school’s PRD process as a reflective practitioner and providing a role model to others in this process
● Seek opportunities for professional development through a range of opportunities such as
professional reading, work with a mentor or critical friend, network groups, in-school or
external workshops
General Areas of Responsibility
● Be an advocate of the school and its decisions during interactions with students, staff and the community.
