Mechanical Design Engineer
Under work direction of Product Lead and R&D Manager, proceeding with own initiative, performs complex mechanical engineering duties following Company standards and procedures, working closely with other engineering and customers.
Responsibilities:
Conducts or participates in research, design, development and testing of mechanical assemblies including component modelling. Stress and tolerance analysis of products.
1) Product definition: Assist in product definition by understanding the operating environment. Proposing designed to cost solutions. Estimating development timelines. Proposing innovative solutions. Deriving Product specification from Customer requirements.
2) Design: Produce effective mechanical designs by working to the mechanical design procedures. Produce calculations as required to qualify design. Investigate concepts and justify the decision making process. Solid Modelling parts and assemblies using SolidWorks and EPDM. Making of mechanical prototypes. Assembling and testing prototypes. Preparing and coordinating design reviews. Supervise and assist production when initially required. Assist with installation and maintenance. Conducts in-house design reviews and technical meetings.
3) Planning: Assist the program manager in planning the mechanical design and managing future work if required by ppreparing development plans. Preparing validation testing plans. Co-ordinate development work covering hardware, software, mechanical. Preparation of documentation. Publish progress reports. Close liaison with suppliers and sub-contractors.
4) Testing and validation of designs by ensuring design meets the specification. Ensuring that the design operates correctly and is fit for its intended purpose. Ensuring that test results are kept in an approved format.
5) Documentation: Ensure the design is documented to appropriate standards. Develop mechanical design descriptions. Develop and maintain the product hierarchy
Qualifications:
1) Ideal candidate must be self-motivated and imaginative.
2) Comfortable working in the dynamic atmosphere of a technical organization with a rapidly expanding customer base.
3) Tertiary qualifications in the field of mechanical/mechatronic engineering, preferable with experience.
4) The ability to keep up with new methodologies/technologies and their practical application.
5) The ability to work well in a team environment, relating to a range of different personality types.
6) The ability to work well under pressure and display good problem-solving skills in a variety of situations.
7) The ability to prioritise work, complete multiple tasks and work under deadlines.
8) The ability to use SolidWorks effectively.
9) Effective written and oral communication skills.
10) Experience and familiarity of probe pin, socket, wafer level CSP, and thermal and semiconductor equipment is a plus, and however demonstrating a strong willingness to learn is considered very admirable and equally desired.
