STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The Memory Aging & Cognition Centre (MACC) is a Research Center within the National University Health System funded by the Singapore National Medical Research Council that focuses on the study of dementia and cognitive impairment in the elderly. The MACC currently has 4 research themes on (i) neurochemistry, molecular pathology and biomarker discovery, (ii) neuroimaging, (iii) clinical assessment and (iv) epidemiology.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the daily operations and maintenance of the laboratory, as well as the handling of samples obtained from human or animal studies. The Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (YLLSOM) is a leading research institution in the world, being ranked in the top 20 worldwide and holds the top position in Asia (QS ranking). If hired, the Professor will be part of the Centre for Translational MR Research (TMR), which offers state-of-the-art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) capacity for both clinical and translational research. TMR is staffed with trained personnel to support research in imaging and image analysis, spanning from basic science to clinical trials. The Professor is expected to lead an independent research program and make significant contributions to one of the following research areas including, but not limited to:

DesCartes Program (work package 9) is looking for research assistant in UI/UX design and library development. The National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for the role of Research Assistant/Research Associate with the Heat Resilience & Performance Centre (HRPC), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The HRPC is a first-of-its-kind research centre, established at the NUS, to spearhead and conduct research and development to better enable the future challenges arising from rising ambient heat. Appointments will be made on a two-year contract basis, with the possibility of extension.

The Research Assistant/Associate who will play a key role in assisting in the development, execution and analysis of research aimed at addressing the challenges of training and operating in rising ambient temperatures. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary group comprising exercise and thermal physiologists, data scientists, biomedical engineers and researchers. This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to not only develop your expertise in research planning and execution, but also to be a part of the team looking to generate fundamental and forward-looking solutions to working in the heat. There are also opportunities to pursue a part-time PhD with HRPC.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The main areas of responsibilities of the role will include but not limited to the following:

• Working with research PIs and teams to develop new research ideas
• Performing literature searches, assimilating, and summarizing key information, as well as identifying knowledge gaps
• Designing and conducting relevant studies and surveys (qualitative and quantitative, including lab and outfield studies)
• Establishing and managing large databases
• Interpreting and analysis of data
• Generating reports and present data to relevant stakeholders
• Contributing to conference presentations and write papers for submission to peer reviewed journals
• Collaborating across teams, contributing to multiple research projects at once

Qualifications

A minimum qualification of a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, or equivalent. Candidates with strong data science and analytics background and keen to delve into heat health research are strongly encouraged to apply as well). Experience in statistics, data analysis and visualisation software (e.g. SPSS, Power BI), and computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, data management and online meeting tools) would be required as well.

In addition, the role will require the following job relevant experience or attributes:

• Keen interest in heat health and human performance
• Proficient in qualitative research
• Proficient in data analysis tools in quantitative research
• Two or more years of research work experience would be an advantage
• Proven knowledge of data collection methods
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Good presentation skills and ability to write research reports for publication in reputable journals

We are looking for a highly motivated and competent research assistant to work on research focusing on peptide crystallization as a versatile platform technology for delivering biocompatible nanomaterials. The successful candidate will help with lab management and support ongoing research activities.

The main responsibilities of the position include:

a. Lab safety, ordering, and lab management (30%)

• To serve as a lab safety lead.
• To be responsible for lab ordering.
• To organise chemicals and consumables in the lab and update the inventory.
• To create and review standard operation protocols (SOPs) and risk assessments (RAs).

b. Research tasks (70%)

• To perform peptide synthesis and characterization of synthesized peptides.
