About the role:

We are looking for a Research Assistant/Master’s student to quantify vitamins and mycotoxins by LC-MS in foods and related materials and develop improved extraction and analytical methods. The candidate should be experienced in analytical science but training will be provided for candidate who has not previously worked with LC-MS. This candidate will be offered a 6-month internship.

Potential Master’s projects:

Novel high protein foods: Optimising nutrition and safety

Aim: To quantify vitamins/mycotoxins in novel soy or algal high protein food produced by TUMCREATE via indoor farming/ extrusion/ fermentation processes. The candidate will utilise these findings in collaboration with food and plant scientists to improve product safety and nutrition.

Mycotoxins and Microbiota: Determining how the human gut microbiota may increase or decrease the dangers of mycotoxins in food

Aim: To quantify mycotoxins in fecal material and in material from in-vitro fecal fermentations and explore how gut microbiota inter-convert mycotoxins into safer or more dangerous forms. The candidate will also explore how variance in gut microbial communities within the Singapore population impacts mycotoxin metabolism. Overall, this project would lead to better understand the risks posed by different mycotoxins in Singapore. This project would suit someone with existing bio-informatic experience.

Job Responsibilities:

• Sample organisation, labelling and processing (food/protein extracts/faecal material)
• Extraction of metabolites (e.g. vitamins) by SPE (solid phase extraction)
• Analysis of metabolites by LC-MS (mainly using targeted triple-quad methodologies)

The MNNDL group at NUS studies the human neural bases of cognitive functions and the associated vulnerability patterns in aging and neuropsychiatric disorders using multimodal neuroimaging and psychophysical techniques. We are interested in the large-scale brain structural and functional networks in healthy developing and aging brain and symptoms-related changes in diseases such as neurodegenerative disorders and psychosis. Statistical, computational, and machine learning methods are developed to analyze and fuse multimodal neuroimaging data. By integrating longitudinal behavior, neuroimaging, and genotype data, our long-term goal is to investigate the interactions among brain network dynamics, behavior, diseases, and genotypes to develop non-invasive biomarkers for early detection, differential diagnosis, progression monitoring, and treatment design.

Purpose of the post

This includes running regular medium to large size workshops for leaders, including customising the design and facilitation execution. It also includes advising other teams on programme design for a more engaging and effective workshop.

• Develop and deliver culture interventions to raise awareness and alignment across the organisation, embed and reinforce behaviours, mindset shifts and new ways of working. It may also involve providing targeted support for high- or at-risk groups, departments and/or teams, to identify detrimental cultural and behavioural patterns, and design and facilitate fit-for-purpose interventions to positively impact effectiveness and health.

• Engage relevant stakeholder groups across the organisation, including senior and middle management, applying the insights to support the interventions for organisational change.

• Partner closely with the lead departments to co-create and plan changes relating to people and processes.

You may also be expected to perform aspects of corporate planning relating to whole-of-government initiatives, corporate governance and organisation excellence within MAS. 

[What we are looking for]

• At least 5 years of work experience in OD, culture and leadership development, change management, or related roles

• Familiarity with a broad range of knowledge, frameworks and tools on Organisation Development and transformation.

• Experience in diagnosing, designing, developing, and delivering effective interventions related to leadership, people practices, and culture at both organisational and project levels.

• Experience in workshop customisation and design, and facilitation. Demonstrate comfort and confidence working with senior leaders and a broad range of stakeholder groups, and able to speak confidently in front of a large audience

• Experience in developing and implementing comprehensive change management plans to ensure strong project support and facilitate staff adaptation, including content and material production

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, coupled with effective written, presentation and reasoning skills

• Excellent organisation skills, meticulous and ability to multi-task

• Demonstrates strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills

• Effective project management skills and thrives in a fast-paced and fluid environment

• Able to work well independently as well as in a team environment

• Experience in or working with the public service will be an advantage.
