Job description

1. Perform research in the following areas relating to coastal protection and adaptation to climate change:

· Wave attenuation over mangroves, seagrasses and coral reefs

· Feasibility of floating wetlands

2. Conduct literature review, field surveys and liaise with relevant government agencies to establish configurations of coastal vegetation/coral which are representative of those commonly found in Singapore.

3. Assist in planning and executing physical modelling and simulations involving free-surface waves interacting with artificial coastal vegetation/corals, as well as waves interacting with floating wetlands.

4. Perform numerical modelling and simulations using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and relevant tools for validation with model test results, and subsequently conduct parametric study and interface with other research partners.

5. Collaborate with industry partners, affiliated research institutes and other relevant stakeholders to contribute to grant proposals for research funding consistent with the strategic goals of TCOMS.

Job Requirements

Qualification & Field of Study:

PhD Degree in Coastal Engineering, Civil/Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering or other related disciplines.

Work Experience:

Project Identification

• Periodically review business processes and performance against three parameters (turn around time, ease of use, first time right). The Mechanobiology Institute, Singapore, is a multidisciplinary institute committed to developing new paradigms for biomedical research by focusing on the quantitative analysis of dynamic functional processes. Through quantitative biophysical approaches, we address major problems in biomedical sciences, including pathogenesis (from bacterial to cancer), tissue regeneration, and function.

The Collective Cell Dynamics in Mammalian Development and Reproduction lab at the Mechanobiology Institute, NUS seeks a highly motivated, self-initiated individual to join as a postdoctoral research fellow. The lab is interested in how collective cell behavior emerges and links with biological functions in development and reproduction. It focuses on cellular mechano-chemical coupling regulations in mammalian tissues and explore design principles of multicellular dynamical systems.

The origin and roles of sperm cell dynamics in the reproductive tracts remain less understood despite their physiological importance. To better understand, the lab has been used intravital microscopy to study murine reproductive tracts, enabling us to observe the cellular and molecular activities in living mouse tissues. In this particular project, we will explore the fundamental mechanisms of how collective sperm dynamics emerge and link with reproductive functions, diseases, and aging by combining intravital imaging using a multiphoton microscope, genetic mouse models, and microfluidic devices.

We are looking for a candidate who is interested in applying interdisciplinary approaches to study the dynamic interplay between sperm and somatic cells in male reproductive tracts to join the lab. Applicants should possess strong leadership qualities, a passion for conducting research, and a creative approach to problem-solving. They should also be able to work both independently and as part of a diverse team.
