The KK Genetic Service is looking for a Genetic Counsellor to complement the work of doctors in the delivery of care to patients, who have a personal or family history of birth defects or genetic disorders, by providing information and support to these patients and their families. The Genetic Counsellor is also responsible for coordinating research projects carried out in the centre.

Job Scope:

• Conduct intake of information from patients, construct a complete pedigree, obtain appropriate medical histories, organize and present the pertinent medical and genetic information to the health care team.
• Apply his/her knowledge of genetics and genetic disorders to effectively convey genetic, medical and technical information to the patient.
• Identify family dynamics and emotional responses from the patient.
• Help patients understand the medical aspects of the genetic condition, as well as the psychological and familial implications of genetics.
• Provide patients with information on options that are available such as genetic testing, disease management and prevention, and facilitate the patient's decision-making in a non-directive manner.
• Provide patients with resources for support and opportunities in research programs existing in the medical community.

The Community Health Visitor (CHV) will deliver health and social integrated care for mother and child, focusing on antenatal and postnatal care, developmental-centred parenting, parent-child interaction and family well-being, with the aim of optimising every child's potential for healthy growth and development. Job Responsibilities:

• To support the pregnant mother during the antenatal period by providing anticipatory care and advice to optimise health, nutrition and improve birth outcomes.
• Conduct mental wellness screenings and nutritional assessments for the pregnant mother, and to work with the trans-disciplinary team to make appropriate referrals when required.
• To support mother and main caregivers in the postnatal period in parentcraft skills.
• To build rapport and cultivate a positive relationship with parents/caregivers to impart child development knowledge and skills and facilitate parent-child bonding, developmental-centred parenting and family well-being.

A Variant Scientist position is available at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) for experienced candidates with substantial post-doctoral experience in clinical genetics and clinical variant interpretation.

The successful candidate will be principally responsible for analysis and interpretation of genetic variation identified by internal and external laboratories, with the aim of delivering accurate and comprehensive clinical genetic testing reports to patients and their care providers.

Other responsibilities include:

• Review available lines of evidence and provisionally classify variants per ACMG (or similar) guidelines. Prepare relevant information for multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings to finalize variant classification.
• Ensure the in-house database of genetic variants is kept up to date, and that periodic variant re-analysis is performed.
• Work closely with the bioinformatics team to develop and improve bioinformatics workflows.
• Provide domain knowledge expertise and training on variant curation best practices to colleagues of all levels.
• Design, plan and oversee efforts for experimental characterization of variants of uncertain significance (i.e., VUS resolution).
• Monitor scientific literature in relevant areas and ensure that the team is aware of emerging gene-disease relationships, new analysis methods and other pertinent information.
• Drive collaborative research projects with partnering institutions to advance knowledge in human disease genetics.
• Lead the writing of scientific publications to ensure that novel findings are disseminated.

Requirements:

• PhD in a life sciences-related field.
• Minimum of 5 years post-doctoral experience (either in a research or clinical laboratory) with relevant work experience (i.e., variant curation, molecular genetics, etc.).
• Able to demonstrate previous experience and proficiency in the application of variant classification guidelines (e.g., ACMG).
• Able to demonstrate experience and expertise in using software such as R to perform necessary data analyses for research projects and scientific manuscripts.
• Strong track record of publishing scientific papers in clinical molecular genetics.
• Experience in design and execution of experimental molecular genetics studies is highly desirable.
