The incumbent is responsible for managing/leading the Section Lab daily operations to support the achievement of the sales targets. In addition, the incumbent is to ensure the testing meets the ISO/IEC 17025 requirement and tests according to relevant standard and specification to fulfil the client/customer requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee the routine and special works to meet the customer requirements, which include but not limited to:
- Review the relevant standards and test requirements before commencement of the jobs
- Organise and provide staffing, equipment and materials for testing
- Manage and minimise operations costs (e.g., manpower, maintenance of equipment, overtime, etc)
- Recommend or propose solutions for new testing scope requested by stakeholders for management decision making
Manage and supervise the administration works:
- check and ensure the completed test report is signed by authorised approved signatory
- review and update the test standard to the latest version (e.g., yearly)
- ensure invoices are sent to the client on time and accurate
- respond to the client for testing and technical enquiry
- purchase of machine/equipment
- schedule for Inter-Lab / Proficiency test program
- ensure SAC SINGLAS accreditation is successful
- monitor, track and close any non-compliance cases
Plan and manage maintenance and calibration of testing machine and equipment to ensure availability and reliability, which include:
- Schedule and send Lab equipment/machine for calibration
- Maintenance schedule for the machine and equipment
- Liaise with vendors for repairing of machine/equipment
Develop staff capacity and capability to support operational/business needs:
- Conduct staff performance appraisal
- Provide OJT, technical training and guidance
- Mentoring and coaching
- Prepare OJT blueprints

Technical Competencies:
- Experience and competence knowledge in mechanical engineering
- Capability in planning, organise and manage the laboratory operations
- Familiar with SINGLAS requirements and interpret relevant test standards/ specifications
- Strong problem-solving skill, team building, planning and decision making
- Good command of English
- Sound knowledge in office software applications (e.g., excel, words, etc)
