The main objective of our ongoing research is to develop and validate data-driven imaging biomarkers to predict the prognosis of Alzheimer's disease dementia in elderly individuals by harmonizing established Alzheimer's disease research datasets and retrospective local institutional datasets.

Key Responsibilities

Database management and basic analysis:

- Download and integrate imaging and other non-imaging data into our research database.

- Perform basic neuroimaging processing and analysis using our existing R / Python pipeline. The role could extend to pipeline customization if the RA shows an interest and aptitude for image analysis work.

- The role could extend to basic statistical analysis and machine learning tasks using pre-built code, under the guidance of the PI and AI expert research staff, if the RA shows interest and aptitude for the above tasks.

Job Description

The successful candidate will work with Professor Eric Chan on Project Theme 5: Safety, Risk and Nutritional Assessment of alternative protein ingredients under a project on Development of non-animal New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) to innovate Next Generation Risk Assessment (NGRA) based on physiologically based toxicokinetic-toxicodynamic (PBTK-TD) modelling and simulation.

The main responsibilities of the position include:

• Conduct research and development of non-animal in vitro and in silico New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) for Next Generation Risk Assessment (NGRA).
• Lead the design and execution of physiologically based toxicokinetic-toxicodynamic (PBTK-TD) modeling and simulation studies.
• Analyze, interpret, and validate experimental data to develop models predicting toxicokinetic and toxicodynamic behaviors of xenobiotics (food and drug).
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., pharmacologists, toxicologists, biostatisticians, regulators) to integrate models with in vitro, in silico and in vivo data.
• Contribute to the preparation of research grant proposals, scientific manuscripts, technical reports, and presentations for both academic and industrial stakeholders.
• Present research outcomes at internal meetings, local, regional and international conferences, and in peer-reviewed journals.
• Stay updated on regulatory frameworks and advancements in NAMs and NGRA.

Qualifications

Qualifications / Discipline:

• PhD in Pharmacy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Toxicology, or related field with a focus on modeling and simulation.
• Strong knowledge of toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics, with expertise in PBTK-TD models.
• Background in systems biology, computational biology, or similar areas relevant to modeling complex biological systems.
• Experience with in vitro and in silico techniques, especially in the context of non-animal risk assessment.

Skills:

• Proficiency in modeling software (e.g., Simcyp, GastroPlus, MATLAB, or similar tools for PBTK-TD simulation).
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills for data interpretation and validation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical reporting and collaborative research.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and manage multiple research activities.
• Problem-solving skills to address challenges in modeling and data integration.

Experience:

• Prior experience in developing and validating PBTK or other physiology-based models in academia or industry.
• Demonstrated experience in Next Generation Risk Assessment and/or non-animal in vitro and in silico methodologies is preferred.
• Proven track record of publications in relevant fields (modeling, toxicokinetics, risk assessment).
• Experience working on collaborative research projects involving multiple stakeholders (academic, industry, or regulatory).
