We are currently recruiting a Research Fellow who will join the laboratory of Professor Simon Redfern at the Asian School of the Environment, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), to perform in situ and operando analysis of the ash-derived sorbents and develop multi-scale reaction model to describe sorbent behaviour during carbon capture cycles.

The candidate will be expected to further increase the efficiency of the capture process by improving the sorbent formulation. As a part of the NRF Fellowship Project on Materials-by-Design, School of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) is looking to hire a Research Assistant with expertise in high-throughput synthesis of inorganic materials and optimization using machine learning. The Research Assistant will build upon our team’s experience toward developing high-throughput experimental platforms for synthesis, characterization and functional performance testing (thermoelectric performance, catalytic performance) of a library of materials.  The Research Assistant will focus on synthesizing and characterizing inorganic materials, specifically inorganic chalcogenides for thermoelectrics and metal alloy catalysts for CO2 reduction.

Additionally, the Research Assistant will conduct in-depth structural and elemental characterization and analysis of the materials using XRD, SEM-EDX and XPS. Finally, thermoelectric measurements experiments will be conducted. The Research Assistant should be able to utilize design-of-experiments and high-throughput experimental workflows. In addition, materials science and metallurgical concepts such as phase diagrams, mapping and separating different phases and oxidation states of compounds and rapid structural analysis are required. A Front Desk Assistant Manager with Conrad Hotels and Resorts supervises the activities at the hotel front desk, responsible for assigning work and ensuring the completion of daily tasks, including check-in/check-out, guest requests, concierge services and promotion of in-house activities.

What will I be doing?

As a Front Desk Assistant Manager, you will oversee the front office activities between the Guest, the hotel, and the various hotel departments to deliver outstanding guest service and financial profitability. A Front Desk Assistant Manager is responsible for supervising the activities that create the first impressions of our Guests and, therefore, must perform the following tasks to the highest standards:

• Supervise Front Desk operations during your assigned shift to a consistently high standard
• Ensure your shift team has a current knowledge of hotel products, services, pricing and special promotional offers, as well as daily VIP and special events
• Conduct pre-shift briefings and advise your shift team of any special events or VIP Guests in the hotel that day
• Assign daily shift tasks and ensure the tasks completion by every end of the shift
• Maintain and update guest history and marketing database as required
• Ensure that a detailed hand over is carried out between shifts including the volume of business, special guests, tasks to be clarified/completed and any special events that are taking place.
• Monitor the appearance, standards, and performance of Team Members with an emphasis on training and team work
• Maximize sales revenues through up-selling and marketing program
• Manage Guest requests, inquiries, and complaints promptly and completely
• Support new team members in any areas that they are not yet competent to handle independently
• Conduct daily training, coaching and guidance accordingly to new team members, to provide evaluation to team members when required
• Handle group arrivals and departures in the absence of the group coordinator
• Coordinate with various departments such as F&B, Engineering, Finance, Housekeeping, Sales, and external parties when running as a Group coordinator.

• Monitor departure rooms promptly in order to manage the room situation and avoid any guest disputes
• Ensure that the Front Desk is sufficiently stocked with daily essentials (including stationery, letterheads, folio paper etc.)

• Ensure that operational challenges and Guest comments/ issues are communicated to the Manager on Duty

Responsibilities:

1) To manage and to provide administrative support in postgraduate research programmes

• Administrative support to scholarship, applications, admissions, reports, statistics, and research attachment.

• To provide guidance to faculty and students whenever required for postgraduate programme document submission such as PhD and MEng.

• Implement a digitalized system to keep the information of supervisors and students. Ease of the documents retrieval whenever required and minimize human error.

• Enhance the level of automation in various procedures related to postgraduate programmes.

3) To resolve outstanding issues

• Problem investigation and to arrive at solutions to resolve the various issues and appeal cases.

• To preempt the potential problems that could arise from disputes.

• To ensure faculty follow policy and procedures of school and university.

4) To provide the documents to OA, CoE, and various departments

• To analyse the various statistical data related to admissions and to implement an efficient approach to derive the statistics.

• To review applications and admission to support the School in research strategic planning.

5) Supervisory and delegating

• Oversee functions and responsibilities of support staff; Allocate tasks to appropriate staff with the right skills; Brief and monitor progress of delegated tasks.

• Ensure that tasks are completed satisfactorily and efficiently within allocated time frame.

• Coach new skills to the support staff to cope with the changes.

• Continue to improve the current administrative process.

6) Reimbursement of claims

• Liaise with finance and supervisors on the complexity of the claims.

• Coach support staff on handling the different requirements of claims related to conferences and research attachment.

7) New faculty support

• Assist the new faculty onboard our School in postgraduate programmes.

The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) seeks a Research Assistant in the areas of natural hazard impacts.

The candidate will work under the supervision of David Lallemant and Susanna Jenkins and will collaborate with the researchers from the ‘Integrating Volcano and Earthquake Science and Technology (InVEST) in Southeast Asia’ project, a 5-year project that aims to provide a holistic understanding of regional tectonics, volcanoes, the linkages between the two, and their cascading hazards and impacts in Singapore and Southeast Asia. 

Specific research/duties will include identifying potentially impactful hazard scenarios in the Southeast Asian Ring of Fire, contributing to numerical modelling of the hazard and its consequences, developing key case studies that can inform and support policy decisions, and preparing information and outputs in ways that can be used to communicate with policy makers and other risk stakeholders.

EOS is a Research Centre of Excellence at Nanyang Technological University Singapore that conducts fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, towards safer and more sustainable societies.

EOS maintains a regional network of geophysical observation stations in collaboration with neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia, that are supported by the EOS Centre for Geohazard Observations, as well as a Remote Sensing Lab (EOS-RS).
