The Hwei-Ee Tan lab studies the fundamental biological basis of “gut-feelings”, how bacteria in the gut signals to the host to influence physiology and behaviour. The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and the French-Singaporean international laboratory (Majulab), are seeking a talented postdoctoral fellow to conduct theoretical and numerical investigations on Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) physics in quantum systems.

The KPZ equation, introduced in 1986 to describe the growth of rough surfaces, has since become a captivating area of research due to its remarkable universality. The project entails studying three quantum platforms where recent studies have shown signatures of KPZ physics: random quantum circuits, Anderson localization, and exciton-polariton condensate, as detailed in [Nahum et al., PRX 2017; Mu et al., PRL 2024; Fontaine et al., Nature 2023]. All three systems are subject to random fluctuations in their many-body degrees of freedom: (i) in the growth of entanglements in quantum circuits, (ii) in the wavefunction fluctuation of an Anderson localized system, and (iii) in the phase of a driven-dissipative condensate.

Despite being completely different, these systems are strikingly connected by KPZ physics. By following upon this unique cross-platform connection, one has the opportunity to discover new properties in each of these systems that could not have been envisaged otherwise. In this position, the fellow's primary focus will be on the latter two platforms and interact closely with another fellow dedicated to the first platform.

Job Requirements

The candidate should possess a solid academic track record and some prior experience in quantum disordered systems, quantum transport, many-body physics, quantum information, quantum fluids, or cold atoms. Proficiency in numerical simulations is essential.

The appointee will join CQT under the supervision of a group of researchers including Profs., Kwek Leong-Chuan, Hui Khoon Ng, Jiangbin Gong, Gabriel Lemarié, Maxime Richard, and Christian Miniatura. The mission of the TikTok Eng-AI Innovation Center is to explore cutting-edge AGI technologies, including but not limited to LLM, multi-modal LLM (video/image/audio/text/code), etc., to let machine better understand user creations on Tiktok platform. Regarding to video/image/audio/text, enhanced content understanding can bring better user experience of searching, recommendation, and can more accurately identify and defend internet abuse and fraud on our platform. The role involves analysing large datasets from simulations and experiments to uncover patterns that traditional models may miss, aiming to enhance predictive capabilities for polymer behaviour. The work will be undertaken in collaboration with experts in algorithm development and experimental data collection and analysis. Findings will be disseminated through peer-reviewed journals, and the developed code will be made publicly available on GitHub.

The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Assistants to join our projects in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Our projects are primarily focused on exploring the role of neuroimaging in the clinic, facilitated by quantitative analysis including machine learning, with a focus on neurodegenerative diseases (e.g. Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease), with a small focus on brain tumor imaging. The title of the current major project is <Development of a data-driven imaging biomarker for Alzheimer's disease>. The main objective of our ongoing research is to develop and validate data-driven imaging biomarkers to predict the prognosis of Alzheimer's disease dementia in elderly individuals by harmonizing established Alzheimer's disease research datasets and retrospective local institutional datasets.

The primary responsibilities of the Research Assistant will revolve around data management and administrative tasks, as described below:

Key Responsibilities

Database management and basic analysis:

- Download and integrate imaging and other non-imaging data into our research database.

- Perform basic neuroimaging processing and analysis using our existing R / Python pipeline. The role could extend to pipeline customization if the RA shows an interest and aptitude for image analysis work.

- The role could extend to basic statistical analysis and machine learning tasks using pre-built code, under the guidance of the PI and AI expert research staff, if the RA shows interest and aptitude for the above tasks.

Administrative tasks:

- Assist with ethical application processes for access to public datasets such as UK Biobank, ADNI, etc. and ensure compliance with institutional/university IRB procedures.
