STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The Memory Aging & Cognition Centre (MACC) is a Research Center within the National University Health System funded by the Singapore National Medical Research Council that focuses on the study of dementia and cognitive impairment in the elderly. The MACC currently has 4 research themes on (i) neurochemistry, molecular pathology and biomarker discovery, (ii) neuroimaging, (iii) clinical assessment and (iv) epidemiology.

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our team at the MACC. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the daily operations and maintenance of the laboratory, as well as the handling of samples obtained from human or animal studies. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to work on various laboratory testing/techniques and contribute to the team's research effort in neurochemistry and blood biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease and vascular cognitive impairment.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Handle samples obtained from human (blood, plasma, serum, post-mortem brain tissues) or animal studies, including the proper processing, documentation, tracking, storage and retrieval of samples.
2. Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and regulatory requirements.

• In this role, you will perform shear and extensional rheological characterization of a large variety of liquid personal care products including lotions, topical oils, and more. We will explore innovative and emerging methods of rheological characterization and analyzing rheological data to extract material parameters to build a database of materials. Working with our industrial partner we will establish an understanding of rheological properties that are useful for product formulation and process design related to lab and larger scale extrusion/dispensing applications.More specific responsibilities include:

  • Formulate model materials with various additives to understand their impact on product rheology

This position plays a key role in advancing knowledge on plant-microbe interactions, contributing to conservation and ecological health of Dipterocarpaceae trees.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead fieldwork initiatives for the survey and collection of soils associated with the ectomycorrhizal fungi and microbiome of Dipterocarpaceae tree species across diverse environments in Singapore.
• Conduct health assessments of surveyed Dipterocarp trees, gathering data to compare markers of healthy and unhealthy specimens.
• Coordinate with the National Parks Board (NParks) for site access and to ensure accurate sampling locations.
• Perform assays to quantify soil properties and nutrient content in collaboration with team members.
