The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and the French-Singaporean international laboratory (Majulab), are seeking a talented postdoctoral fellow to conduct theoretical and numerical investigations on Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) physics in quantum systems.

The KPZ equation, introduced in 1986 to describe the growth of rough surfaces, has since become a captivating area of research due to its remarkable universality. The project entails studying three quantum platforms where recent studies have shown signatures of KPZ physics: random quantum circuits, Anderson localization, and exciton-polariton condensate, as detailed in [Nahum et al., PRX 2017; Mu et al., PRL 2024; Fontaine et al., Nature 2023]. All three systems are subject to random fluctuations in their many-body degrees of freedom: (i) in the growth of entanglements in quantum circuits, (ii) in the wavefunction fluctuation of an Anderson localized system, and (iii) in the phase of a driven-dissipative condensate.

Despite being completely different, these systems are strikingly connected by KPZ physics. By following upon this unique cross-platform connection, one has the opportunity to discover new properties in each of these systems that could not have been envisaged otherwise. In this position, the fellow's primary focus will be on the latter two platforms and interact closely with another fellow dedicated to the first platform.

The candidate should possess a solid academic track record and some prior experience in quantum disordered systems, quantum transport, many-body physics, quantum information, quantum fluids, or cold atoms. Proficiency in numerical simulations is essential.

The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Assistants to join our projects in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Our projects are primarily focused on exploring the role of neuroimaging in the clinic, facilitated by quantitative analysis including machine learning, with a focus on neurodegenerative diseases (e.g. Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease), with a small focus on brain tumor imaging. The title of the current major project is <Development of a data-driven imaging biomarker for Alzheimer's disease>. The main objective of our ongoing research is to develop and validate data-driven imaging biomarkers to predict the prognosis of Alzheimer's disease dementia in elderly individuals by harmonizing established Alzheimer's disease research datasets and retrospective local institutional datasets.

The primary responsibilities of the Research Assistant will revolve around data management and administrative tasks, as described below:

Key Responsibilities

Database management and basic analysis:

- Download and integrate imaging and other non-imaging data into our research database.

- Perform basic neuroimaging processing and analysis using our existing R / Python pipeline. The role could extend to pipeline customization if the RA shows an interest and aptitude for image analysis work.

- The role could extend to basic statistical analysis and machine learning tasks using pre-built code, under the guidance of the PI and AI expert research staff, if the RA shows interest and aptitude for the above tasks.

Administrative tasks:

- Assist with ethical application processes for access to public datasets such as UK Biobank, ADNI, etc. and ensure compliance with institutional/university IRB procedures.

- Provide general administrative and secretarial support to the project, such as coordinating meetings, procurement, etc.

Assist in the preparation of scientific documents:

- Conduct literature searches, assist in the preparation of manuscripts, grant proposals/reports, and other scientific documents under the direct supervision of the PI.

Qualifications

Interested candidates should: (a) Have an undergraduate degree with good grades or a Master's degree in life sciences, engineering, or related fields; preferably, but not required, with some experience in dry lab or imaging research (b) Have basic programming skills in R and Python (ability to use code written by others under guidance) (c) Have fluent oral & written communication skill (d) Demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and show investigative tendencies and attention to detail.

Job Description

The team of Prof Loh Kian Ping invites application for a postdoctoral fellow/research fellow working in condensed matter physics and two dimensional (2-D) materials devices. A major research thrust is the synthesis and investigation of artificially engineered heterostructures of quantum materials synthesized by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) with strong electron correlations which allow new emergent states to be created at the interface.

Requirements

The candidate should have a PhD in Physics and have experience in operating

1. Angle resolved photoemission spectrometer, and the collection and interpretation of results arising
2. Experience in the molecular beam epitaxy growth of 2D topological materials
3. UHV-scanning tunnelling microscopy/Q plus AFM

The candidate should have a strong track record in surface physics or condensed matter physics.

An attractive renumeration package will be offered for suitable candidate (research fellow) with a strong record in 2-D condensed matter physics and who has good publication record.
