TUMCREATE is a multidisciplinary research platform of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) at the Singapore Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE). We are joining forces with universities, public agencies, and industry for the advancement of future technologies. Our research projects “Proteins for Singapore” and “Aquacycle” aim to develop novel protein foods with excellent nutritional and sensorial properties from a variety of starting materials including soy, algae and aquacultural side products. About the role:

We are looking for a Scientific Research Analyst to quantify vitamins and mycotoxins by LC-MS in foods and related materials and develop improved extraction and analytical methods. The candidate should be experienced in analytical science, but training will be provided for candidates who have not previously worked with LC-MS. An initial 1-year contract will be offered with possibility of extension.

Job Responsibilities:

• Sample organisation, labelling and processing (food/protein extracts/faecal material)
• Extraction of metabolites (e.g. vitamins) by SPE (solid phase extraction)
• Analysis of metabolites by LC-MS (mainly using targeted triple-quad methodologies)

The RA will receive regular direct supervision by the PI. While prior experience working in a laboratory environment would be valuable for this position, this is not critical, as specific molecular biology techniques will be taught by the PI. The National University of Singapore invites applications for research assistant/associates in the Multimodal Neuroimaging in Neuropsychiatric Disorders Laboratory (MNNDL), Center for Sleep and Cognition at the Department of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The MNNDL group at NUS studies the human neural bases of cognitive functions and the associated vulnerability patterns in aging and neuropsychiatric disorders using multimodal neuroimaging and psychophysical techniques. We are interested in the large-scale brain structural and functional networks in healthy developing and aging brain and symptoms-related changes in diseases such as neurodegenerative disorders and psychosis. Statistical, computational, and machine learning methods are developed to analyze and fuse multimodal neuroimaging data. By integrating longitudinal behavior, neuroimaging, and genotype data, our long-term goal is to investigate the interactions among brain network dynamics, behavior, diseases, and genotypes to develop non-invasive biomarkers for early detection, differential diagnosis, progression monitoring, and treatment design.

Purpose of the post

Main Duties and Responsibilities

This team is responsible for developing, implementing, and tracking AI/ML models for driving enterprise digital personalization in prospect marketing and automating data capability and model governance.

Our Decision Science teams use industry leading modeling and AI practices to predict customer behavior. We develop, deploy and validate predictive models and support the use of models in economic logic to enable profitable decisions across credit, fraud, marketing and servicing optimization engines.

The role will entail some of the below listed responsibilities:

• Work with massive amounts of digital data (Web, App, API) and sophisticated tools in an industry leading Big Data environment.
• Build everything from basic reports to advanced machine learning models and algos to drive improvements to our customer’s online and mobile app experiences.
• Work with product owners to revolutionize the product and content design with a data-driven approach
• Collaborate with tech partners to test, implement and deploy modeling solutions to production system.
• Develop insights into customer behavior and introduce new approaches to transform complex behavioral data into actionable information

Minimum qualifications and skills required across role types are highlighted below:

• Masters/PhDs in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Operation Research etc.) with hands-on experience leveraging sophisticated analytical and machine learning techniques.
• Expertise in an analytical language (Python, R or the equivalent), and experience with databases (Hive, SQL, or the equivalent). Knowledge of SAS is a plus but not required.
• Deep understanding of machine learning/statistical algorithms such as deep learning and boosting. Experience with data visualization is a plus
• Minimum 3 year of experience in marketing modeling
• Demonstrated ability to frame business problems into mathematical programming problems, leverage external thinking and tools (from academia and/or other industries) to engineer a solution and deliver business insights

Job Description

This job aims to address some critical issues in the development of a multi-dimensional photodetector capable of simultaneously capturing optical information such as polarization, wavelength, and optical angular momentum. The main targets are threefold:

1. Understand in depth about the fundamental properties of light including helicity, chirality, polarization, and optical angular momentum. Investigate how these light properties interact with materials and/or structures with different symmetry properties. Research directions include chiral / nonreciprocal / nonlinear optical processes, integrated photonic devices, etc.

2. Study the symmetry properties of 2D materials as well as metasurfaces and nanostructures. The targeted design of a multi-dimensional photodetector should utilize these symmetry properties to enhance the effectiveness, robustness, and responsivity of photodetection of the various optical information, including but not limited to polarization and optical angular momentum.

3. Find the practical schemes to implement a multidimensional photodetector by integrating 2D materials / Tellurides with nanostructures that can allow effective, robust, and simultaneous photodetection of polarization, optical angular momentum, etc. The practical devices should also possess ultrathin nature, the ability to convert multidimensional light information to electrical signals, and the ability to operate at room temperature. At last, one or two prototypical designs should be experimentally demonstrated.

Considering the above research targets, the candidate should possess in-depth physical insights and interdisciplinary knowledge of 2D materials, symmetry analysis, metasurfaces etc. Practical experience in the design, fabrication, optical characterization and measurement of optical devices is preferred.

Qualifications

1. PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Physics or relevant area with a strong background in the design, fabrication and optical measurement of 2D materials and/or nanostructure.

2. Working experience in the design and fabrication of 2D material-based optical devices, optical characterization and measurement of optical devices.

3. Mathematics and physics knowledge in band theory, symmetry analysis, optics, and electromagnetics.

4. Technical proficiency:
• Experience in preparation/exfoliation of layered materials for making optical devices;
• Optical path setup and optical measurement under room and low temperature involving the photoluminescence and photodetection of optical information such as polarization and wavelength.

Candidate should have strong publication records in reputed international journals in the field of photonics or optics, specifically focusing on the investigation and manipulation of optical properties of 2D materials and/or nanostructures.
