The Maritime Energy & Sustainable Development Centre of Excellence (MESD CoE) was launched in October 2017 and jointly funded by Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU).  MESD aims to be a leading global translational research centre in maritime energy and sustainable development. The Centre calls for talents with inspiration in maritime decarbonisation to join the team and is searching for Research Fellows to work on research projects aimed at exploring alternative fuels and energy sources for the maritime industry.
Job Responsibilities
The Research Fellow will investigate the solutions of Methanol as the next-generation alternative fuel and assess its compatibility for maritime applications, including onboard trials. The Research Fellow will examine the methanol supply chain, bunkering, life cycle assessment, standards development, engine technology, safety and risk analysis, and other techno economic analyses.
The Research Fellow will also be responsible for drafting proposals, preparing project report and papers for publications, conducting experiments, making presentation to stakeholders, etc.
Being a Research Fellow with the opportunity to lead own research topic, you are expected to:
- Identify research topics with high relevance and impact to maritime industry in the area of maritime energy and sustainable development
- Work closely with agency and industry to understand their needs and attain the collaboration
- Liaise with project stakeholders, including funding agencies, industrial partners and academic staff in universities and institutes (locally and internationally)
Job Requirements
- Ph.D. in Maritime Studies, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Energy or related fields
- Capable of using software tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, BOOST, CRUISE, EXCITE, FIRE, PSIM, ASPEN HYSYS, etc.
- Have an extensive understanding of decarbonisation initiatives
- Ability to develop and manage R&D projects with good understanding of industrial needs
- A good team member with good communication & interpersonal skills as well as the capability to work independently
- Good command of English, both oral and written, with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individual and professional groups
