Polarisation variations in a focused beam are not restricted by the traditional diffraction limit and superoscillatory, i.e. very high spatial frequency, variations are possible. Engineering of focused polarisation structures can be achieved, for example, through wavefront shaping and polarisation control of incident beams. Illumination of proteins or other small bioparticles with such superoscillatory polarisation structured light offers opportunities in detection of conformational changes or nano-displacements which can observed with high sensitivity in polarisation space, even though there is no observable variation in the intensity domain. In this project we seek to determine optimal polarisation structures and determine expected sensitivity through analytic and computational means. Viability of experimental detection will be assessed and potentially pursued.

The Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) is looking for highly motivated and experienced candidate to join us as Research Fellow. The candidate will be part of Indonesia–NTU Singapore Institute of Research for Sustainability and Innovation (INSPIRASI), a joint research consortium between founding university partners, NTU, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Universitas Indonesia (UI), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), and Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS).  Beyond its role as an education hub to facilitate knowledge creation and transfer between NTU and the four Indonesian universities, INSPIRASI is an innovation hub of cutting-edge technology, with a research focus on sustainability, particularly in renewable energy, circular economy and smart cities.

The candidate will support the program as research fellow to conduct and contribute to the development of next generation solar harvesting technology in the INSPIRASI programme, ensuring synergistic and collaborative research among the universities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement wet-based fabrication techniques to create novel inorganic photoabsorbers based on computational recommendations

• Apply expertise in inorganic semiconductor synthesis and composite formulations, with a focus on optical applications

• Conduct comprehensive experimental studies to fine-tune the novel photoabsorbers for desired properties

• Collaborate closely with the team to ensure the successful development and integration of novel photoabsorbers for diverse applications

• Employ advanced characterization methods, including photoluminescence, UV-Vis spectroscopy, Solar Cell performance, and photoelectrochemical cell testing

• Conduct thorough literature review and generate periodic updates

• Supervise junior research staff, undergraduate and graduate student projects

• Manage logistical issues and laboratory inventory

• Facilitate and support research collaboration among faculties and researchers from NTU and partner universities

• Document and disseminate research findings through scientific reports, publications and international conferences

Job Requirements:

• Hold or anticipate obtaining a Ph.D. in materials science, chemistry, or physics

• Possess a minimum of 4-5 years of research experience, encompassing the Ph.D. study period, in the optoelectronic semiconductor field for energy applications

• Exhibit expertise in the fabrication and characterization of solar cells or photoelectrochemical cells (e.g. IV characterization, XRD, SEM, EQE, PL, etc)

• Knowledge and experience in high throughput synthesis and analysis is a bonus

• A strong track record of research ability and demonstrated contribution to research (e.g., research publications, grant applications, patents)

• Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a diverse, international, and inter-disciplinary research environment

• Ability to take initiative to improve processes and troubleshoot problems

• Exhibit excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal

• Ability to work well with multiple competing priorities, manage projects and meet deadlines

• Prove the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment as well as work independently with minimum supervision

The School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE) invites applications for the position of Research Fellow.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Collaborate with other researchers (including PhD students and research staff) to conduct research on the structure-property relationship of additive manufactured (AM) alloys under the supervision by Prof. Gao Huajian.

• Perform multiscale simulations (DFT, MD, FEM, Phase field model) to obtain fundamental understanding of the deformation mechanism of AM alloys and develop physics-based models for the verification and prediction of mechanical properties.

• Deliver project millstones timely and present the work on internal and external conferences. 

Job Requirements: 

• PhD degree in solid mechanics/computational mechanics/mechanics of materials

• Rich experience in theoretical and computational mechanics

• Good communication and writing in English

• Good interpersonal skills;

• Strong responsibility for research work.
