Purpose

The candidate will participate in clinical research projects in SERI related to Glaucoma, including examination of study participants, collection andorganization of clinical and imaging data in order to characterize the underlying disease mechanisms of the disease and to determine the factors associated with disease progression. The candidate will receive appropriate mentoring support by the senior members of the team, with the aim to produce high impact factor articles in ophthalmic and visual science. You will assist the Principal investigator and other team members in the successful execution of the project(s).

Duties andResponsibilities

The Research Component includes the following:

• To conduct and coordinate clinical research in glaucoma diseases within SERI/SNEC in line with its research strategy, including PI-initiated studies and industry sponsored clinical trials
• To assist in management of these research projects, which includes supervising post-doctoral research assistants, research students, technical and other support staff
• To co-ordinate and ensure smooth running of the study at the study site/s
• To publish research outcomes in appropriate journals of international standing and to publish and disseminate the result of research and scholarship in other reputable outlets
• To attend and present research findings and papers at academic and professional conferences, and to contribute to the external visibility of the department
• To help draft research reports for the Director, Principal Investigators

• Completed 2 years of advance training rotations in general ophthalmology

The Laboratory of Applied Human Genetics at the National Cancer Centre Singapore is a multi-disciplinary laboratory with specific focus on peritoneal malignancies and sarcoma. The direction of our laboratory is to solve real world clinical problems via sound scientific translation. Since the conception of our laboratory 7 years ago, we have now set up three scientific pillars of Therapeutics, Companion Diagnostic and CAPTIVATE (Target Generation) pipeline. Currently, we are working towards a first-in-human therapeutic developed in our laboratory. We are looking for an innovative, enthusiastic and highly motivated Research Fellow to work with a team of researchers in the area of cancer therapy for advanced metastatic cancers. Interested applicants should have an extensive molecular biology experience to uncover the MOA/structure of our therapeutic using cellular signaling, cell biology or protein structure approaches and possess the desire to translate basic science to make a clinical impact. Asian Thoracic Oncology Research Group (ATORG) is the coordinating platform for translational research for thoracic malignancies in Asia. Its mission is to advance medical knowledge of lung cancer and improve health outcomes of patients through clinical studies and scientific events.

Asia Pacific Oncology Drug Development Consortium (APODDC) was formed to foster education and collaboration between key stakeholders of cancer drug development within the Asia Pacific region, thereby improving treatment access to patients. APODDC drives regional activities in collaboration with institutions in the region and industry partners.

ATORG and APODDC operate centrally under the Clinical Trials and Epidemiological Sciences (CTE) division in National Cancer Centre Singapore.

The Senior / Executive will mainly organise events for ATORG and APODDC . The types of events include, but are not limited to, virtual, hybrid and in-person advisory board meetings, educational seminars and workshops. This role provides opportunities to interact internationally with healthcare institutions, industry partners and vendors, and manage key stakeholders at a regional level.

The SERI AIDH group is one of the world-leading AI medical research groups in ophthalmology, consisting of clinical, technical, and commercial experts. We focus on developing AI to transform medicine and improve patient journey. The outcomes of our research include multiple innovative and translational technologies which can be brought to future clinical care.

The Senior Research Fellow will join the SERI AIDH Group for a six-month period. This role involves designing advanced AI algorithms for analyzing fundus photos, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), and OCT Angiography (OCTA) to detect retinal diseases and implementing these algorithms in real-world clinical settings.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop AI algorithms for analyzing fundus photos, OCT, and OCTA images to detect retinal diseases. Ensure algorithms are robust, accurate, and clinically relevant
• Collaborate with clinical and technical teams to validate and refine AI models based on real-world data and feedback
• Implement AI algorithms in real-world clinical settings, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems
• Oversee data collection, annotation, and preprocessing to ensure high-quality input for AI models. Manage large datasets, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance with regulatory standards
• Prepare and submit a first-author paper to a high-impact journal
• Ensure research findings are well-documented, reproducible, and meet high academic standards
• Mentor junior researchers and contribute to a collaborative research environment
• Drive collaborations with international academic institutions and industry partners

Requirements

• Minimum a PhD in bioengineering, computer science, or a related field
• Relevant Experience of at least 8-year experience in research with a proven track record in AI algorithm design, especially in the healthcare domain
• Significant experience in analyzing medical images, particularly fundus photos, OCT, and OCTA
• Demonstrated ability to publish high-impact research papers.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in AI and machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch)

Overview*

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be involved in a multi-site cohort Human Biomedical Research study. You will be based at outpatient clinics across NUHS, at Alexandra Hospital or National University Polyclinics. You will be primarily responsible for subject recruitment and other research deliverables for the studies. You will work closely with the research team and the Principal Investigator of the study.

Job Responsibilities*

You will be responsible for the following:

1) Subject Recruitment and follow up

• Be involved in subject recruitment, scheduling and data entry. Screen patients based on study eligibility, and communicate the study aims to potential subjects in layman terms.
• Obtain consent taking, administer study questionnaires and follow-up on study participants.
• Work closely with research team, clinicians, clinic staff and other relevant internal departments to ensure research study needs are met.
• Able to work on tight timelines, set sensible targets and achieve research deliverables.

2) Research Documentation / Administrative duties

• Conduct research study activities like patient recruitment, data collection and data management.
• Assist in data collection from electronic health records.
• Set up and maintain study investigator files, including records of consent taken and blood collection.
• Maintain study records in databases such as Redcap and in electronic health record systems.
• Responsible for maintaining strict adherence to research protocols i.e., HBRA.
• Liaise with investigators, clinicians and laboratory team to set up clinical workflows at multiple clinical departments for research recruitment.
• Prepare necessary documentation for audit purposes.
• Coordinate the submission of new IRB applications, study amendments and annual reports.
• Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with hospital policies, ethics requirements and local regulations.
• Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.
