Business Need / Purpose of Role:
The Construction Manager will oversee all aspects of the construction and upgrade process, from planning and scheduling to execution and delivery. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a deep understanding of shipbuilding practices specific to drillships and semisubmersible drilling units.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Management: Lead and manage construction projects for drillships and semisubmersible drilling units, ensuring adherence to project specifications, timelines, and budgets. Coordinate with stakeholders, including design teams, subcontractors, and clients, to achieve project objectives.
- Technical Oversight: Provide technical guidance on shipbuilding processes, materials, and equipment. Review construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor a team of engineers, supervisors, and craftsmen. Foster a collaborative work environment, promote professional growth, and ensure effective communication among team members.
- Quality Assurance: Implement quality control procedures and inspection protocols to maintain the highest standards of construction excellence. Monitor workmanship, materials, and equipment to identify and address any deviations or deficiencies promptly.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations. Conduct regular safety audits, promote best practices in shipyard operations, and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and standards.
- Budget & Cost Management: Develop and manage project budgets, track expenditures, and identify cost-saving opportunities. Provide regular financial updates, forecasts, and recommendations to senior management.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and regulatory authorities. Address client concerns, negotiate contracts, and ensure customer satisfaction throughout the construction process.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree or professional certifications preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in shipyard construction management, with a focus on drillships or semisubmersible drilling units.
- Comprehensive knowledge of offshore drilling shipbuilding processes, techniques, and industry standards.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations, classification societies, and international maritime standards.
