Assistant Director, Sports Pathway and Performance

The Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) seeks a highly motivated and results-oriented Assistant Director, Pathway and Performance to join our dynamic team.


In this role, you'll play a key role in:

  • Developing and executing SDSC's strategic plan to elevate para athlete performance and sustain our para sports success.
  • Identifying and nurturing talent through innovative scouting strategies and clear development pathways.
  • Building a world-class support system for para athletes, coaches, and technical officials.
  • Leading by providing expert guidance, fostering collaboration, and inspiring the team to achieve success.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Pathway and Performance Development:

  • Strategic Planning: Formulate and execute a vision, alongside a detailed long-term strategic plan for designated para sports and athletes, targeting high performance and competitive success at major events.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate positive partnerships with International Federations and relevant organizations to bolster para athletes' success in competitions. Collaborate closely with stakeholders, including National Sports Associations (NSAs), coaches, academies, clubs (A&C), Sport Singapore (SportSG), Singapore Sports Institute (SSI), and National Youth Sports Institute (NYSI), ensuring alignment of goals and coordination of talent development efforts.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly evaluate the strategic plan, integrating best practices, emerging trends, and innovative approaches. Ensure the effectiveness of the plan in identifying, nurturing, and developing talent for designated para sports by monitoring international and national trends and developments.
  • Nomination and Selection Policies: Develop thorough Major Games nomination policies in accordance with the latest guidelines and requirements. Establish selection policies to identify athletes for competitions and development.
  • Performance Analysis: Utilize data analysis of sport and athlete performance and health to devise strategies and plans that optimize performance outcomes.
  • Pathway and Performance Leadership: Develop and drive a calendar of competitions, trials, and other pathway and performance activities for assigned para sports to support the performance development of athletes.
  • Technical Support: Deliver expert advice and assistance on para sports, including athlete training techniques and equipment adaptations, to partner organizations engaged in pathway and performance initiatives, fostering shared success.

Talent Identification and Development:

  • Scouting Strategies: Develop and implement effective strategies to scout potential Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) for the Pathway Programme, ensuring they have access to comprehensive training and development opportunities.
  • Collaborative Identification: Work closely with coaches, support staff, and various sport organizations to identify and nurture promising para athletes.
  • Selection Process Oversight: Oversee the athlete selection process, ensuring it is conducted with integrity, fairness, and transparency.
  • Talent Pathways: Develop clear talent pathways to track and provide progression opportunities for athletes in assigned para sports.

Athlete Support:

  • Athlete Management: Oversee and develop pathway athletes, offering coaching, sports science, and sports medicine services while tracking their progress.
  • Annual Planning: Lead the development of annual plans for assigned para sports and para athletes, collaborating closely with coaches, specialists and other support personnel. Collaborate with athletes, coaches and other sports support personnel to identify and prioritise performance objectives, targets, and milestones.
  • Carding Process: Manage and develop the SSI Carding process, including the National Youth Sports Institute (NYSI) youth carding system.
  • Athlete Life Management: Offer support beyond sports activities to help athletes thrive and meet performance goals.

Coaching and Technical Support:

  • Quality Coaching: Collaborate with coaches to ensure high-quality coaching aligned with international best practices.
  • Technical Officials: Foster the development of technical officials to enhance the support system for the growth and advancement of assigned para sports.
  • Professional Development: Facilitate professional development opportunities for coaches and technical officials, encouraging participation in programs, workshops, and seminars, and supporting them in pursuing relevant certifications and qualifications.

Support for Major Games and Competitions:

  • Competition Roles: Assume the Team Manager or Secretariat role for overseas competitions, and Technical Director for local competitions as required.

Team Leadership:

  • Mentorship: Provide mentorship and support to members of the Pathway and Performance team to help them continuously improve and deliver outcomes for their sports and athletes.

You'll bring:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in sports programs, ideally with a proven track record in Pathway and Performance initiatives. Experience contributing to success at major sporting events or of athletes at the world level is a strong asset.
  • Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Sports Science, or a related field (preferred).
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and build strong relationships.
  • Commitment to excellence and a willingness to go the extra mile, including working weekends and after hours when necessary.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to manage diverse personalities effectively.
  • Dynamic learning abilities with strong analytical skills.
