Company Background

Our client, headquarters is in Lae, where it has manufactured paint and chemicals for over 40 years. It has its major workforce in Lae and Port Moresby, and has trade depots in Kimbe, Kokopo and Madang. It supplies industrial chemicals to the mining, oil and gas, agriculture, food and beverage and water treatment sectors. Seventy per cent of its coating products are produced locally.


Overall Job Scope

The company is seeking to hire a National Marketing Manager, to be based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

The incumbent is accountable for leading category, brand and portfolio strategy and execution along with sub-functions such as market research, brand/product management, trade management, and promotions and is a key leadership role within the Marketing & Innovation group. This role leads portfolio planning, short- and long-term NPD, brand development and brand activation across specialty, and trade categories and is responsible for activation across both retail and trade channels.


Key Responsibilities

1. Consumer Driven Category and Brand Strategy

  • Develop and implement a cohesive, long-term category and brand strategy for key brands to deliver profitability growth with the divisions.
  • Lead the portfolio planning and category planning process across the SBU and ensure that 0 – 4 year NPD plans are in place leveraging consumer insights
  • Partner with peers across Marketing & Innovation team in head office to develop and deliver cohesive, differentiated brand and marketing strategies to achieve brand outcomes.
  • Partner with peers across retail and trade management teams in head office to identify and prioritise new market and category opportunities for key brands.

2. Commercial Delivery

  • Ensure commercial plans/P&Ls meet project, annual, 4-year KPIs. Ensure long term profitability is maximised through category plans. Manage assigned marketing budgets to plan.
  • Ensures connection between marketing and sales functions and supervises their joint work with distribution channels.

3. Systematic planning and execution

  • Lead the coaching and development across the ANZ marketing team for best practices in category management, portfolio planning and brand planning leveraging group wide capabilities.

4. Product lifecycle and Inventory Management

  • Support category management initiatives including NPD, run out plans, discontinuation and category range reviews.
  • Collaborate with the Commercial Planner/ Supply Planning team to ensure product availability and maintain optimal inventory to meet future demand.

5. Market Intelligence

  • Gather data on market size and value, category size and value using such sources as Customs data, National Statistics Authority, sales & sales management data, SAP ByD data.
  • Competitor Data – gather details on competitors’ volumes & value, market pricing, distribution locations.
  • Market Pricing Analysis – asses the pricing of the companies ranges against the competitors and provide recommendations to the management.
  • Oversees market research and monitors competitor activity to identify opportunities and trends within existing and new market segments and to ensure that appropriate response strategies are formulated and communicated.

6. People & Culture

  • Through strong and effective leadership and coaching, reviews and assesses performance, maximise performance of and motivate the category marketing team to ensure business success.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing/ business or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years managerial experience
  • Experience in Trade Marketing
  • Working experience in a developing country will be an added advantage.
  • Strong customer orientation and adaptable to changing customer demands
  • Able to build up and oversee a marketing team.
  • Strong People and Leadership skills
  • Marketing Planning and Budget management
  • Good communicational and interpersonal skill
  • Able to take pressure and adaptable to changes.
