The Asian Communication Research Centre (ACRC) in the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI) is looking for a candidate to join them as a Research Assistant, who is interested to investigate cultural perceptions of skin tones and aesthetic preferences in the Philippines and Indonesia, which can be used to improve AI camera optimization for smartphones to achieve higher degrees of digital inclusiveness.

The candidate will support the planning and execution of various research grants, and will work closely with the Lead Investigator on quantitative and qualitative research related to AL camera optimization.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in coordinating and running research projects
• Work closely with collaborators and third-party service providers in conducting the projects
• Handle daily operational, administrative, and logistics duties related to the research projects
• Conduct and organise project meetings
• Conduct and interpret qualitative and quantitative data analyses for projects and journal publications
• Actively contribute to the preparation of manuscript drafts for peer-reviewed journals
• Undertake any additional project duties as required by the supervisor

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, psychology, business administration, public health, or any related social science disciplines
• Experience in scientific writing through publications in public health or social sciences literature. Final year dissertations/theses will also be accepted as writing samples.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Experience in qualitative and quantitative data analysis using relevant analysis software (e.g., NVIVO, SPSS, AMOS) will be preferred
• Strong verbal and written communication skills especially in English Language and Bahasa Indonesia or Tagalog are essential for conducting research and data analysis
• Highly motivated and willing to work independently in a multidisciplinary setting
• Interest in developing a research career

The candidate will support the planning and execution of various research grants, and will work closely with the Lead Investigator on quantitative and qualitative research related to the impact of media technologies on wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leading and conducting literature reviews and working on research papers
• Assist in research activities including conceptualization and planning of research projects
• Lead/assist in data gathering (including focus group discussions and surveys)
• Conduct data analysis of interview and survey data
• Actively contribute to the writing of academic research manuscript
• Lead the writing of reports
• Carry out administrative work associated with the program of research as necessary

Job Requirements:

• PhD degree in Communication Studies, Psychology or related field in the social sciences
• Applicants with more than 1 year of work experience in social sciences research will be preferred. Entry level candidates are also welcome to apply.
• Prior experience in focus group interviews and surveys for social science research
• Good quantitative data management and analytical skills (e.g., being able to analyze data using SPSS, MPLUS, R, and/or Python)
• Demonstrable intellectual excellence and capacity to work with others independently
• Good project management skills, with multi-tasking ability
• Academic writing skills
• A good publication track record evidenced by journal publications and conference presentations is preferred

[What you will be working on]

Responsibilities:

• Facilitate students’ learning and growth, including providing pastoral care.
• Develop curriculum across Pre-Employment Training (PET) and adult learners for Continuing Education Training (CET), aligned to industry trends and needs.
• Deliver course content, which includes creating and administering course assessments, and carrying out project supervision, leading module teams where necessary.
• Evaluate and enhance curriculum design and course delivery by employing appropriate teaching and learning strategies. 
• Engage actively with industry stakeholders to keep up with emerging practices, trends and developments, or leading student projects and share insights with the team.
• Collaborate with industry stakeholders so that learners may leverage on them for enhanced learning.
• Lead or contribute to school or institutional committees to complement administrative/management/teaching and learning efforts.
• Lead or contribute to new initiatives of the school or institution, in response to changing needs in the industry. 

[What we are looking for]

Requirements:

• At least 4 years(s) of relevant experience of using the arts in community engagement and/or community development.

• Relevant qualifications in applied arts or other arts-based related disciplines.
• Passionate in developing individuals who are interested in community engagement/development.  
• Prior experience in design thinking, project management and knowledge of research methods will be an advantage.
• Prior experience in teaching/working with youths or curriculum development will be an advantage.
• Good intrapersonal and interpersonal skills.

Successful candidate will be offered a 2-year contract in the first instance.
