Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Fellow to join our dynamic research team focusing on designing, adapting, and implementing cutting-edge mechanical and electronic systems for a decentralized food manufacturing model. As part of the Proteins4Singapore project, this role involves on utilizing simulations and advanced control systems to optimize and ensure quality in novel food textures and forms. This position plays a critical role in advancing sustainable protein solutions for urban environments through interdisciplinary collaboration, drawing expertise from mechanical engineering, mechatronics, and food engineering. This is a 1-year contract with the possibility of extension after the first year.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop a closed-loop control system to synchronize high-moisture extrusion and shape manipulator systems with a seamless integration and quality assurance.
• Integrate a variety of non-invasive sensors for a continuous and active monitoring on a food shape manipulator system.
• Develop and adapt custom firmware to integrate extrusion, in-line monitoring and control system with software protocols.
• Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to combine multiscale structural analysis with food processing methods, such as 3D printing and extrusion, supporting the project’s overarching goals of promoting sustainable food technologies and creating novel approaches for analyzing food texture.

Key Competencies

We are looking for a Scientific Partnership and Alliance Manager. The role would be to support the Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials (I-FIM) in new scientific initiatives with new or existing partners leading to answering grant calls, initiating new scientific consortiums and subsequent management of new scientific alliances.

The Centre for Ageing Research and Education (CARE) is an academic research centre based in Duke-NUS Medical School. Drawing on its interdisciplinary expertise and collaborations across medical, social, psychological, economic and environmental perspectives, CARE conducts research on the social and medical determinants of successful ageing, and actively engages with government and industry partners to identify needs and strategies to enhance the experience of ageing in Singapore. Within this, CARE is implementing the “Assessment of Fall Risk and Fracture: Targeted Assessment and Recruitment of Geriatrics for Effective fall prevention Treatments” (TARGET) study, that aims to develop novel, scalable solutions for screening and assessing the risk of falls among older adults in Singapore. The study involves a baseline survey and home-based as well as clinic-based assessments among a national cohort of older adults, coupled with short quarterly follow-up interviews that collect data on falls post-baseline. We seek to hire a Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow to join the project.

The successful candidate will perform a variety of research activities including but not limited to the following:

• Undertake quantitative research using the TARGET study data, and write academic manuscripts for publication in high-impact scientific journals.
• Contribute to project progress reports and submissions to funding agencies and international collaborators.
