This project aims to model the corrosion induced damage process in reinforced concrete. A multi-physics model is envisioned, to capture the ingress of chloride ions, the stress loading on concrete material due to the formation of corrosion products, and the resultant damage in concrete. Job Description

The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with Asst. Prof. Patrick Rebentrost in the intersection of quantum algorithms and optimization, machine learning and/or finance. Sample topics include quantum algorithms for problems in supervised and unsupervised machine learning, algorithmic learning theory, and online learning, and quantum algorithms for financial problems such as portfolio optimization, pricing of financial derivatives, and hedging. The job will include the development of quantum algorithms in these areas, with provable quantum advantages and provable guarantees, when possible, in fault-tolerant models of quantum computation. The job will also include the development of algorithms that are easier to execute on available hardware such as variational and post-variational methods and quantum approximate optimization. Furthermore, the aim is to provide hardware implementations on available devices, comparisons between available hardware providers, and classical simulations of the quantum algorithms. For this purpose, the successful applicant will be granted significant independence concerning their research and receive generous travel funding. The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Senior Research Fellow position in Prof Brian Kennedy’s lab, part of the Department of Biochemistry and the Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The lab focuses on basic, clinical and transformative research to add healthy year of life by developing interventions to delay ageing and chronic disease onset, increase healthspan and improve life quality.

Purpose of the post

The Senior Research Fellow (SRF) will be responsible to and work closely with Professor Brian Kennedy to provide support in research projects to advance the understanding of aging biology and age-related diseases, with a specific focus on identifying novel anti-aging compounds (drugs, natural products, metabolites, etc.) that can delay cellular aging and extend healthspan. This project will focus on the multi-agent search problem, where multiple autonomous robots (agents) are tasked with spreading over a given region to be explored, to locate given targets of interest trying to evade detection. The number of targets is unknown, and their initial position is not known as well. There might be obstacles in the domain, and their location might or might not be known. Throughout this work, we will assume that robots can communicate their observations (presence/absence of targets) during search, via local or global communications, so they can update their representation of the domain and likely location(s) of targets (more details about this representation in the next Section). Our goal is to allow robots to plan efficient search paths to cover the domain and localise the targets as quickly as possible, while relying on local sensing and on distributed intelligence rather than on centralised planning, which would represent a vulnerable bottleneck and would not scale well to large agent teams.

This position is funded by a Ministry of Education AcRF Tier 2 grant of Li Yi. The goal of the project is to develop new theory and algorithms for massive datasets, with a particular focus on online algorithms related to numerical linear algebra.

Key Responsibilities:

• Developing state-of-art algorithms for massive datasets
• Writing or contributing to publications, and attending conferences and workshops, for disseminating research findings. Travel support is possible.

Job Requirements:

• Ph.D. in theoretical computer science, mathematics, or a relevant area
• Good background of probability in theoretical computer science
• Research experience, as evidenced by a history of relevant publications, is expected. Publications in top venues are highly desired.

Job Description

This position will involve the design and operation of tubular flow reactors for a variety of single- and multi-step organic synthetic transformations, including, but not limited to, multi-phase (gas-liquid) reactions, photoredox chemistry and electrochemistry. The primary space of applications will be in the manufacture of functional molecules as active ingredients for the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industry. Candidates with deep experience in the setup and operation of flow reactors and the associated online/offline analytical instrumentation are encouraged to apply.

Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP) in School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) is looking for a candidate to join them as a Research Fellow.

Key Responsibilities:

• Focus on developing new hybrid aqueous electrolytes that are will render better stability to the electrode materials and interface and higher voltage window than pure aqueous electrolytes. Comprehensive characterization will be conducted which encompasses in-situ set up and DFT calculation and/or MD simulation.
• Provide support to the research group on related experiments, including equipment procurement, set up battery fabrication lines
• Develop new proposals based on the results of this project
• Provide support to the management of lab and project issues, including equipment procurement, battery fabrication lines and final reports
• Make regular progress report to PI

Job Requirements:

• Ph.D. Degree in either material sciences or applied physics from QS top100 universities
• Demonstrated track-record of scientific productivity (journal publications, patents, etc) on the topic of aqueous batteries
• Highly motivated and keen to undertake grand challenges in multidisciplinary subjects
• Able to conduct the project independently without heavy training or supervision
• Good team player who is capable and willing to provide supports in a dynamic and interdisciplinary environment. He/she will provide support to the management of lab infrastructure, safety, mentoring junior members, and writing final reports.
