DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The J.P. Morgan Payments Legal team supports the J.P. Morgan Payments business, which is part of the Corporate and Investment Bank and is one of the world’s largest, most trusted and innovative providers of international cash management, liquidity, commercial card, foreign exchange, escrow solutions, trade finance and merchant services. In addition, the J.P. Morgan Payments business invests in future-growth initiatives, such as blockchain, artificial intelligence and machine learning, as well as partnerships with fintechs. In this role as an experienced lawyer, you will work at the intersection of banking and technology with a successful, well established and collegial team of lawyers. We support a fast-paced business with an ambitious payments agenda.
Job responsibilities:
• Providing legal support and advice to the Payments business across all APAC jurisdictions on a wide range of client-related transactional matters including reviewing, negotiating, drafting and finalizing contracts with the Bank’s borrowers, customers and partner banks based on internal guidance and standard operating procedures;
• Liaising and coordinating with local, regional and global legal counterparts and functional partners on legal issues including those concerning cross-border activities and cross-line of business projects; and
• Instructing and working with outside counsel.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:
• Qualified lawyer and a minimum of 5 years of post-qualification legal experience is required
• Effective drafting, negotiation and legal analytical skills
• Team player, proactive, with an up-beat “can-do” attitude with the ability to work under pressure, handle tight deadlines, manage complex projects and multiple tasks in a fast-paced and complex business environment
• Must be reliable, organized, detail-oriented and take pride in your work
• Ability to effectively interact with all levels of personnel and management, including senior executives and influence to build consensus across a global matrix organization
• Business Chinese proficiency is an advantage as the role may deal with clients that prefer to negotiate contracts in Chinese
