The Economics and Political Science Department at INSEAD is looking for a part-time or full-time Pre-Doctoral Researcher to work as a Research Associate (Area Researcher) on INSEAD’s Asia (Singapore) campus. The main task is to assist the Economics faculty in conducting research. • This position is under the FRS programme. The researcher will maintain and further develop InfraRisk, an integrated platform for the electricity grid, water network and transport system quantifying the effects of weather-related disruptive events on interdependent systems.
• The platform will be leveraged to design system resilience against disruptive events and across system interdependencies, with a focus on simulating and testing disruption/restoration scenarios relevant to Southeast Asia.

The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Assistant for “Cardiovascular Translational Research Programme, Project RESET Theme 2” in Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is widely recognised as the top disease burden locally and internationally, accounting for approximately 30% of local deaths in 2015. Research data has revealed that Singaporeans suffer from the onset of CVD approximately 10 years younger as compared to westerners. Furthermore, the 5-year death rate from heart failure is approximately 50%, which is significantly higher than some well-known cancers. However, despite the threat and adverse impact of CVD, global funding for CVD research lags severely behind Cancer research. Comparatively, in 2018, there was only one drug approved by FDA for CVD versus 16 drugs for Cancer. Therefore, there is a vital need for new medicines and treatment approaches for CVD. Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• A MSc in environmental sciences, ecology, geography, biogeochemistry or similar discipline
• Extensive experience with field work and associated lab work, preferably in coastal and/or forested ecosystems.
• Highly organized and proactive, and with the ability to work independently.
• Willingness to undertake extensive field work. On a regular basis, field work will require you to stay and work for several-day periods on Pulau Ubin.

DESIRABLE SKILLS
• Prior use of LI-COR instruments or similar to measure photosynthesis and soil respiration/gas flux
• Experience with managing and processing data using R, Python or similar.

Job Description

The incumbent will provide administrative support to the Undergraduate Studies Section in the Dean's Office, Faculty of Science. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following -

1) Faculty Co-ordinator for Study Abroad Programmes (SAP)

• Plan, manage and coordinate SAP which covers university-wide and faculty-level global partnership with overseas universities.
• Work closely with Global Relations Office (GRO) on the student exchange programme (SEP) allocation and student placement.
• Manage the administrative processes that include student recruitment, selection interview, pre-departure briefings, module mapping and credit transfer for outgoing students in all SAP.
• The range of programmes that the team handles include the following: Student Exchange Programmes (SEP), French Double Degree Programme, Global Classroom, Summer/Winter Programmes, Global Science Summer Programmes, Incoming/Outgoing Summer Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme in Science (UROPS), Non-graduating, non-exchange programmes, Financial Assistance Schemes (e.g., NUS Awards for Study Abroad, Science Student Overseas Exposure Fund)

2) Student support for outbound and inbound students

• Handle student enquiries/appeals efficiently.
• For inbound students, to also assist in the logistics required (e.g., accommodation).

3) Publicity

• Manage the Faculty's SAP publicity materials
• Update collaterals, website, student portal etc to ensure information is accurate and timely.

4) Others

• Coordinate and answer enquiries (counter, telephone, email) from students and the public.
• Take minutes for Undergraduate Studies/Student Life meetings.
• Provide assistance at University/Faculty level events such as Open House, Freshmen Orientation Briefing, and Commencement.
• Any other duties as assigned by the Vice Dean.

- Remuneration is based on a 12-month salary structure, with annual variable bonus which is subject to incumbent’s performance and the University/School’s prevailing remuneration policies.

Job Description

The job holder is to work with PI and the research team to conduct Research Characterizing Airborne Pollutants in Urban Environment.

The research activities involve (but not limited to):

• Operating a wide variety of instruments, data retrieval
• Laboratory chemical analyses and speciation
• Modeling chemical reactions of airborne pollutants
• Assisting and contributing to project deliverables, including,
• Planning and conduct experiments, data analyses, progress reporting, report writing, etc.

Qualifications

One or more of (but not limited to) the following:

• Fast learner capable of conducting independent research and proficient literature search, review & summary with strong background in chemical engineering / chemistry / physics
• Sufficient experiences in applying Pythons functions of matplotlib, and numPy, pandas, statsmodels, etc
• Modeling chemical reactions of airborne pollutants through implicit modules
• Experiences of applying machine learning to handle big data
• Experiences of laboratory chemical analyses using chromatography, such as GC-MS-MS, LC-MS-MS, etc
• Experiences of operating instruments measuring physical properties of aerosols
• Experiences in conducting field studies of aerosol and VOC sampling using various instruments
• Proactive in assisting and contributing to quality scientific research publications
• Proficient in technical presentation, slide making, report writing, etc
• Proven rounded and effective team player with strong initiative and ownership of the research project

• Design and synthesis of organic functional materials with persistent luminescence
• Design and synthesis of organic functional materials for theranostic applications
• Design and synthesis of nanomaterials for theranostic applications

• Responsible for conducting high quality research, writing academic papers and collaboration with other researchers
