Job Description:
The Workplace Safety and Health Officer (WSHO) is responsible for ensuring the safety and health of workers engaged in road and civil construction projects. This role involves implementing and maintaining safety standards, policies, and procedures to minimize risks and prevent accidents in the workplace. The WSHO collaborates with management, supervisors, and employees to promote a culture of safety and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
· Develop and implement safety programs specific to road construction activities, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measures.
· Conduct regular site inspections and audits to assess compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
· Provide safety training and awareness programs for workers, supervisors, engineers and subcontractors.
· Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
· Review safety plans, method statements, and permits to work for road and civil construction activities.
· Monitor the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety devices on site.
· Liaise with government regulatory agencies and industry stakeholders to stay updated on safety regulations and best practices.
· Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, incidents, and corrective actions.
· Participate in safety meetings, committees, and emergency response drills.
· Provide timely safety reports and recommendations to management.
Requirements:
· Registered Workplace Safety and Health Officer (WSHO) with the Ministry of Manpower.
· Proven experience in occupational safety and health management, preferably in road construction or civil engineering projects.
· In-depth knowledge of relevant safety regulations and standards, such as ISO45001, WSH Act, and construction safety requirements.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with employees at all levels.
· Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing safety issues.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
· Proficiency in computer applications such as MS Office and safety management software.
· Physical fitness and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
· Willingness to travel to different project sites as needed.
· Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in the construction industry as a WSHO.
· Experience in the implementation of ISO45001 and ISO 14001
· Working day (Monday to Friday and Alternate Saturday)
· Salary commensurate with working experience
