Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Fellow position in Professor Brian Kennedy’s lab, part of the Department of Biochemistry and the Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The lab focuses on basic, clinical and transformative research to add healthy year of life by developing interventions to delay ageing and chronic disease onset, increase healthspan and improve life quality. Appointments will be on a 1-year contract in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.

Purpose of the post

The Research Fellow (RF) will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator and team members to investigate the effects of repurposing drugs and natural products influencing healthspan and lifespan in mice and biological clocks of ageing, work on ageing and system biology to unravel the ageing networks. The RF’s principal role will be to work on modelling, simulating, and analyzing biological processes related to ageing biology.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Fellow will liaise with the relevant personnel in the department to smooth the process of modelling, simulating, and analyzing biological data and will be accountable to the Principal Investigator (PI). The RF will be able to:

Job Description

The research is on transforming food waste into digestates containing active biomolecules to enhance vegetable growth. Utilizing anaerobic digestion, we aim to recover essential nutrients such as N, P and K from food waste and integrate them into waste-derived hydrogel/biochar for optimal vegetable cultivation, thereby closing the waste loop in farming practices.

The specific aims are:

1. To release nutrients from food waste through anaerobic digestion and optimize the co-digestion process with waste-derived hydrogels.
2. To recover nutrients from the digestate to produce a novel biofertilizer.
3. To develop a prototype of an integrated food waste nutrient recovery system for pilot-scale testing.

Asian Thoracic Oncology Research Group (ATORG) is the coordinating platform for translational research for thoracic malignancies in Asia. Its mission is to advance medical knowledge of lung cancer and improve health outcomes of patients through clinical studies and scientific events.

Asia Pacific Oncology Drug Development Consortium (APODDC) was formed to foster education and collaboration between key stakeholders of cancer drug development within the Asia Pacific region, thereby improving treatment access to patients. APODDC drives regional activities in collaboration with institutions in the region and industry partners.

ATORG and APODDC operate centrally under the Clinical Trials and Epidemiological Sciences (CTE) division in National Cancer Centre Singapore.

The Senior / Executive will mainly organise events for ATORG and APODDC . The types of events include, but are not limited to, virtual, hybrid and in-person advisory board meetings, educational seminars and workshops. This role provides opportunities to interact internationally with healthcare institutions, industry partners and vendors, and manage key stakeholders at a regional level.

Main Responsibilities:

Organise events (80%)

• Responsible for managing events from startup to execution
