Senior Maritime Compliance Advisor (Alternative Fuels, Compliance, and Regulatory Affairs)

Position Summary
Under the oversight of senior management, the Senior Maritime Compliance and Sustainability Advisor will play a critical role in advancing the company’s operation and products in compliance with FuelEU Maritime and RED III (Renewable Energy Directive III) regulations, as well as other key international maritime standards. This position involves advising on fleet readiness, alternative fuels, and sustainability strategies to ensure the company meets all regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
FuelEU Maritime and RED III Compliance: Provide expert advisory on FuelEU Maritime and RED III requirements, ensuring the company remains compliant with EU regulations on alternative fuels and carbon intensity for maritime operations. Develop frameworks for implementing these directives in alignment with EU’s decarbonization targets.
Regulatory Compliance and Operational Standards: Maintain high standards of regulatory compliance, focusing on IMO regulations such as SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, COLREG, and STCW. Guide the company on meeting these global standards, with emphasis on carbon intensity measures outlined in FuelEU Maritime.
Environmental and Alternative Fuel Initiatives: Lead efforts on sustainability and alternative fuel strategies, including Methanol,LNG and other low-carbon fuels. Ensure alignment with RED III targets and EU emission reduction goals, advising on pathways to integrate alternative fuels effectively.
Port Operations and Safety Management: Provide expertise in managing port operations, safety protocols, and vessel itineraries within FuelEU Maritime requirements. Conduct port assessments to ensure safety standards and regulatory compliance with local and international standards.
Customer Compliance Support: Develop and oversee training programs for feedstock suppliers and customers, ensuring they understand and comply with key regulations, including FuelEU Maritime and RED III. Lead the training and sales teams to implement educational initiatives that equip partners with the knowledge needed to maintain regulatory compliance and uphold industry standards.
Job Requirements
Educational Background: Master’s CoC and a Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Operations, Marine Studies, or related field.
Professional Experience: Minimum of 10 years in fleet operations, maritime compliance, or marine fuel management. Prior experience and deep understanding of IMO regulations, as well as EU directives including FuelEU Maritime and RED III. Familiarity with CII, EEXI, and other current sustainability standards is highly preferred.
Leadership and Strategic Planning: Strong ability to strategize, plan, and implement operational policies in a regulated environment. Capable of building and adapting frameworks for customer fleet readiness.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills in a multicultural setting. Skilled at conveying complex regulatory requirements into straightforward, actionable guidance.
Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and maritime management software. Skilled in technical analysis and compliance management.
Travel and Flexibility: Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed. Available on-call for operational needs, including conditions in various environments.
