Overview

The Centre for Research in Child Development (CRCD) was established in 2017 with funding from the Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE). Hosted at the National Institute of Education (NIE), the CRCD conducts studies focusing on factors that influence the course of development from infancy through middle childhood. The Centre is interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
• Child Development and Early Childhood Education
• Translation, Development and/or Intervention work
Candidates with appropriate qualifications and relevant research experience are encouraged to apply. We invite applications for the position of Education Research Scientist/Senior Education Research Scientist to join the CRCD.

Requirements

• PhD in a relevant discipline
• Minimum 2 years of post-PhD experience

• Ability to lead a research team
• Track record in the following areas:
• High quality publications (please provide samples and information on the quality and impact of your work based on citations and ranking of journal publications)

• Planning and writing research project proposals that are funded through competitive peer-reviewed funding processes
• Independence in research (i.e. sole authorship/senior authorship of high-quality publications and invited presentations at conferences)

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (spoken and written English);
• Ability to work with colleagues within a team

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement the centre’s research programme
• Take a leading role in the development of research projects and programmes and in seeking and pursuing appropriate external funding

• Disseminate the outcomes of research in peer-reviewed publications of international standing

• Support CRCD in its efforts to impact practice and policy through research projects and programmes

• Manage and conduct administrative and management tasks associated with research or programme

• Participate in research of strategic importance to CRCD and NIE
• Participate in the wider research and service activities of CRCD and NIE

Planning, Teaching and Class Management • To prepare and deliver the curriculum with care and enthusiasm, in ways that facilitate active learning, excite curiosity and enrich the learners' knowledge and understanding. • To meet the learning objectives of the programme and differentiate learning activities to meet the varying needs of the students in each class. • To use relevant teaching resources to support instruction. • To liaise closely with the Team Lead on any matters concerning student development, performance or behaviour that are of concern. • To create a stimulating, tidy and interactive classroom. • To establish routines and enforce ageappropriate classroom management procedures. • To ensure that the students are supervised and safe at all times. The Research Officer will oversee the progress of the research study under the supervision of the Principal investigator. They will perform a variety of research activities which include planning and execution of experiments for functional validation, leading up to a scientific publication.

Main Duties:

1. Tissue Logistics

• Tracking of biological samples received in the lab pertaining to the study
• Collection of patient samples (FFPE, Tissue, WBC,DNA or RNA) from Pathology
• DNA/RNA extraction from frozen tissue or FFPE
• Submission of DNA/RNA samples to external sequencing partner

2. Cell culture

• Generation of cell line and/or organoids from tissue collected from the study
• Maintenance of these cell lines and/or organoids in culture

3. Perform tasks and support all aspects of the research project

• Performing literature reviews when required
• Plan and execute experiments for functional validation
• Conduct accurate monitoring, documenting and reporting of experimental result and research findings
• Evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare oral presentations/scientific manuscripts/ literature for publication

4.Perform other related duties

• Laboratory upkeep and maintenance

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s/Master of Science degree in related technical discipline (biology, cell biology, biomedical science, biochemistry or molecular biology)
• Experience working in a clinical or academic environment
• Strong technical/wet lab skills
• Team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently
• Independent worker, possess initiative to complete tasks and projects assigned
• Highly motivated to learn new techniques and not afraid to ask if unsure
• Able to undertake independent research progressively

Job Responsibilities:

• Plan, supervise and implement the programme for the class in accordance with centre’s policies and framework
• Complete progress reports on children for each semester and prepare a developmental portfolio for each child
• Set up and create a stimulating and engaging pleasant learning environment that promotes self-directed learning
• Responsible for all aspects of classroom management and carry out routine care duties to ensure safety and hygiene of the children
• Work closely with the other teaching staff in the class in carrying out the duties
• Build and maintain close partnership with parents

Requirements:

• Minimum Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education
• Certified by ECDA at L2 category
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• High tolerance level towards children is an advantage
• Able to work well independently as well as within a team
