What does it take to become a Civican?
Civica is looking for Library Officers to manage the day-to-day operations of the assigned library including operating the Library Automation System (LAS); providing support in library information services; procurement and maintenance of library resources and delivery of library programmes.
A day in the life…
- Ensure efficient processing and circulation of resources to the students and other library patrons.
- Shelve library materials and read shelves in accordance with recognized library standards i.e DDC for school libraries
- Classify, catalogue, process and genrefy new library resources
- Maintain the integrity of the data in the Library System
- Select, index, archive and update resources and databases suitable for use as supplementary materials to support teaching, learning and research
- Development and preservation of the library collection to ensure currency and relevance
- Assist library patrons with queries
- Consult Heads of Department on recommendations for collection development in consideration of school collection profile as well as curricular and non-curricular needs
- Liaise with suppliers on the purchase, delivery and verification of library resources acquired
- Prepare, analyse and evaluate regular reports on library usage, loan and collection statistics, reference enquiries, collection profiles and programme reviews
- Promote library collection, services and activities through displays, newsletters, social media and/or other means of outreach.
- Develop and conduct library and reading promotion programmes
- Engage regular users to gather feedback on their interests and needs.
- Provide loan, advisory, information and enquiry services to students and teachers

- Diploma or GCE ‘A’ levels or equivalent, with good credit in English
- Proficient in technology (MS Office, digital tools, social media platforms)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, to work collaboratively with teachers, students (aged 13 to 18) and vendors
- Comfortable with making presentations
- Self-starter
- Stooping, bending, lifting and reaching is required for picking up and shelving books.
- Experience in the library industry would be an advantage.
