Origins Lab

The overarching aim of the lab is to understand the developmental origins of health and disease (DOHaD) and translate it into meaningful clinical insights. The National University of Singapore invites applications for research assistant/associates in the Multimodal Neuroimaging in Neuropsychiatric Disorders Laboratory (MNNDL), Centre for Sleep and Cognition, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. More information on the laboratory is available at www.neuroimaginglab.org.

The MNNDL group at NUS studies the human neural bases of cognitive functions and the associated vulnerability patterns in aging and neuropsychiatric disorders using multimodal neuroimaging and psychophysical techniques. We are interested in the large-scale brain structural and functional networks in healthy developing and aging brain and symptoms-related changes in diseases such as neurodegenerative disorders and psychosis. Statistical, computational, and machine learning methods are developed to analyze and fuse multimodal neuroimaging data. By integrating longitudinal behavior, neuroimaging, and genotype data, our long-term goal is to investigate the interactions among brain network dynamics, behavior, diseases, and genotypes to develop non-invasive biomarkers for early detection, differential diagnosis, progression monitoring, and treatment design.

Key attractions are access to a high-performance computing cluster, two 3T Prisma MR scanner and a MR compatible digital EEG system as well as collaboration opportunities with an excellent network of domestic and international scientists and doctors. Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant (RA) will work closely with the Principal Investigator, lab members, and collaborators to ensure successful completion of research projects (including neuroimaging, behavioral, and digital tracking experiments), smooth operation of computing and neuroimaging equipment, and efficient management of neuroimaging database in the lab.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The research assistant will support the effort in conducting cutting-edge neuroscience and machine learning research and development. He/she has the opportunity to learn state-of-the-art neuroimaging techniques, data collection and analysis, with healthy participants and patients with neuropsychiatric diseases. He/she will be primarily engaged in all neuroimaging and behavioral experiments such as subject recruitment, behavioral testing, digital tracking, image data collection, and data analysis. He/she will also support computing server/storage administration (with support from external vendors), neuroimaging equipment maintenance, and general lab administration like website. He/she will also be able to learn how to conduct fMRI scans with EEG recording, interactions with patients, quality control, behavioural assessments, neuroimage processing using automatic or semi-automatic scripts, and implications in neuroscience and disease. The research assistant is expected to learn neuroimaging softwares and assist researchers in IRB application, data preprocessing and database management in various research projects. He/she will be exposed to ongoing research work in machine learning and statistical analysis in the context of neuroimaging, cognitive neuroscience, and neuropsychiatric disorders. The research assistant/associate will have the opportunity to liaise and work with other clinical collaborators across the institutes/hospitals in Singapore on research projects and contribute to the presentations and publications of research work. Job Description

NUS College is the honours college of NUS and conducts the outreach and admissions process in collaboration and partnership with the Office of Admissions, partner faculties, and other partners in NUS. The incumbent will play a crucial role in the admissions process, such as the coordination of interviews and assessments, responding to admissions-related queries, and reaching out to candidates on pre- and post-acceptance procedures. He/she will also support in selected outreach efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist in coordinating interviews and assessments for more than a thousand applicants; this includes, but is not limited to, working with interviewers and candidates and helping with scheduling requests, organising the set-up of the holding area for in-person interviews, being on-site to manage any unexpected events during interviews, setting up zoom links for online interviews, working with interviewers and readers to ensure that their scores are submitted in a timely manner
• Assist in coordinating with the Office of Admissions and other institutions in NUS on admissions matters
• Keep track of admissions decisions made for applicants and on admissions postings made by the Office of Admissions
• Follow-up with applicants on post-acceptance procedures, in particular to contact candidates to make sure they register for housing
• Provide administrative support for scholarship selection
• Provide administrative support for admissions to specific programmes

Job Description

The Singapore Gastric Cancer Consortium (SGCC) is a translational research group comprising clinicians and scientists working in gastric cancer research. The group aims to solve important clinical questions to improve the care of gastric cancer patients, facilitated by close interaction between clinicians and scientists, and with synergism that enables biologic discoveries in the laboratory to be validated in the clinical setting.

Our research theme, “Bringing Discoveries to Patients” was recently awarded the Open Fund - Large Collaborative Grant by the National Medical Research Council. This will spearhead key research projects which include molecular testing for gastric cancer prevention, personalized cancer therapy and treatment, characterization of gastric stem cells, and single cell analysis of gastric cancers.

Duties

• Work with Research Fellow/s in the conducting of clinical research projects
• Processing and molecular analysis of patient blood and tissue samples
• Screening and consenting study subjects
• Optimizing and troubleshooting new experimental protocols
• Keep meticulous records of Case report form (CRF) documentation.
• Data analysis and statistical analysis of the research studies
• Coordinate laboratory operational activities through managing laboratory and sample inventories, establishing laboratory procedures and organization of laboratory consumables

About ASEF Communications Department (COM)

COM promotes Asia-Europe cooperation by raising awareness and knowledge about ASEF, ASEM and Asia-Europe relations. Aimed at a diverse range of constituencies including the media and general public, COM’s activities foster greater mutual understanding between Asia and Europe. Among the seven thematic areas of ASEF, COM is responsible for Media. Through its projects, COM creates unique networking platforms for the exchange of views and ideas, as well as cooperation among media professionals from Asia and Europe.

COM is also responsible for ASEF’s corporate communications. COM supports the Executive Director on ASEF’s messaging and outreach, and is custodian for ASEF’s brand and identity. It manages the ASEF websites and related digital assets, and coordinates project communication by ASEF Project Departments (PDs) and ASEM-related bodies.

About the Position

ASEF is looking for a hardworking, experienced and creative Senior / Project Executive, who is also a good team player and can contribute to the achievement and furthering of COM’s mission. He/she reports to the Director of Communications and works closely with rest of the COM team.

The appointment is on a one-year contract basis, with an initial 3-month probation period.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to development and implementation of ASEF’s Communications and Strategy
• Conceptualise, organise and implement media projects and where necessary, other ASEF-related programmes.
