Business Context

Unilever Asia Private Limited (UAPL) is one of Unilever’s Global Operating Hubs based in Singapore.

As part of its hub structure, UAPL hosts several key centralised business models (CBMs) under its roof - namely Unilever International, Global Procurement Operations for Raw Material and Finished Goods, Global Commodity Risk Management and the Global Marketing Category/Brand teams.

Brief

UAPL Finance is recruiting an Assistant Finance Manager - Treasury reporting directly to the UAPL Finance Operations Manager within the Controllers team. He/She will be the main Treasury lead for UAPL whose role will involve both managing of Treasury Operations as well as implementing Strategic initiatives as driven by Global or business-initiated requirements.

The successful candidate will be supported by an offshore team and will also be in regular contact with the Global Treasury team on strategic initiatives and ongoing policy update and compliance.

This role will require engagement beyond Finance and active involvement in strategic initiatives and projects. This will involve regular interactions with various stakeholders across the different business models and also externally with Unilever’s partner banks and insurance providers, thus providing visibility and an excellent learning ground for the individual to strive and succeed.

Main Accountabilities

Exposure management

Manage FX exposure across the different business models under UAPL. These include:

• Monitor and manage forex exposure within exposure limit; manage forward covers within existing authority limits and pro-actively consult beyond these limits
• Continuously improve on forecast basis of hedging and provide better hedging analytics
• Responsible for observing Forex limits and ensuring compliance to global treasury policies

Lead Cash Forecasting and Liquidity Management

Ensure Unilever’s financial assets are safe guarded and used efficiently. These include:

• Analyze and ensure timely completion of Treasury reports (FX exposures, currency trends, Cash Forecast, actual cash flows; hedging requirements).

Governance and Compliance

Maintain policies and procedures that impose an adequate level of control over treasury operations. These include:

• Responsible for the Treasury Policy compliance and the simplification of the actual operation, aligning to the Global Model.
• Responsible for liaising with audit teams on OCA, SOX, Corporate and external audits for all treasury areas
• Lead monthly reviews with Cap Gemini to ensure quality delivery of outsourced operations and to progress on the agreed continuous improvement initiatives to deliver best in class process

Insurance Management

As the key liaison to the global team and external service providers, responsible for insurance and risk management areas and provide decision support and financial insight of insurable operational and hazard risks to UAPL

• Completion of annual Global Insurance collection for UAPL and ensuring all subsequent questions are resolved so that adequate coverage is retained.
• Responsible for supporting stakeholders in claims and liaising with service providers on all insurance matters.

You bring

• Degree/Diploma qualification in Finance, Accounting, or related field; CPA will be preferred. Minimum 6-8 years of relevant finance and accounting experience in multi-national companies environment.
• Strong knowledge and experience with local statutory requirements, tax regulations, and compliance standards in the relevant geographic regions where the company operates. This includes familiarity with local GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) or IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).

Summary

The role involves strategically managing finance matters across the Asia Pacific, working closely with the Regional Finance Controller and Country Finance Controllers/Managers. The responsibilities include coordinating financial planning/budgeting and analysis and overseeing working capital, treasury, and taxation. The individual in this role acts as a controller and business partner to the country finance team and other stakeholders. It is an individual contributor role where finance matters are handled locally by the country's finance team. The Asia Pacific region comprises 12 countries.

Description

The primary responsibility of this role is to manage working capital and treasury for countries across the Asia Pacific region. This includes ensuring that countries meet their accounts receivable past due KPIs and make efficient use of cash.

The following are the essential tasks that the role entails:

• Conduct weekly conference calls with focus stations to review the status of their receivables and ensure that their past-due accounts are within an acceptable range.
• Manage credit terms and amounts to ensure they are in place and adhered to. This involves overseeing bad debt provisions and write-offs in line with company policy.
• Develop strong relationships with our corporate banks.
• Regularly review balance sheet reconciliations across Asia Pacific countries, including reviewing accruals.
• Participate in monthly performance reviews, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Plan and execute process improvements to improve efficiency and strengthen controls. This includes conducting regular internal audits to ensure proper vendor management.
• Participate in tax matters, such as transfer pricing, tax inquiries/audits, etc. Actively engage with our tax consultants across countries.
• Other duties may include implementing the Travel & Entertainment system, building the Air RFQ annual bidding calculator, and expanding the office.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

• A degree in Accounting/Finance or its equivalent.
• A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in finance, with at least 2-3 years of exposure in handling regions or multiple countries.
• Ability to meet deadlines and remotely manage country finance teams and other country leadership teams.
• Must be willing to engage in all aspects of finance/accounting while the company grows.
• Proven success in driving down past-due amounts and DSO figures.
• Excellent communication skills, dealing with multiple countries, regional, and corporate management layers.
• Ability to adapt to challenges that come from rapid growth.
• Experience in internal control and internal check systems relative to credit and collections.
• Knowledge of freight forwarding and customs brokerage is a plus.
• ACCA or Certified Public Accountant certification is a plus.
