RESPONSIBILITIES
Associate Counsellor/ Counsellor
Student Guidance & Counselling Services support students with diverse study needs, such as those who face adjustment issues, study stress, medical conditions or temporary disabilities. Confidential psycho-educational interventions facilitated by professional counsellors employ both education and counselling strategies in individual or group sessions. Students will acquire practical and positive emotional and behavioural skills to improve life adjustment, management of emotions and self-awareness through these sessions.
Job Responsibilities
Provision of professional counselling and consultation
- Provide professional counselling (individual and/or group) to students (full time/part-time), which may also involve family or peer
- Provide psychological crisis intervention, follow-up to students affected by critical incidents and case management to at-risk student cases
- Provide psychoeducation, casework management; referral to community partners or external professionals where needed
- Developing and conducting groupwork sessions / talks / activities for students on transitional and mental health issues and healthy coping strategies
- Provide proper documentation of cases, and statistical data and case reports to Head
- Provide regular updates to Head of Department on progress of students being seen for counselling
- Lead and manage portfolios and project related tasks / duties
Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
- Lead the team on mental health campaigns/ talks/ workshops to create awareness of various health conditions
- Lead the team to develop outreach publicity materials and contribute as writer to student magazines and social media platforms
- Work collaboratively with student service offices and other relevant stakeholders to provide wholistic approach of care to students
- Conduct training / workshop to staff and students on mental well-being and crisis management
- Analysis of returned student feedback and tracking of help seeking trends
Provision of critical incident management
- Provide consultation and psychological critical incident management to distressed students, and where needed, getting immediate intervention for such students by working closely with various stakeholders in the community
- Able to mentor junior counsellor on complex cases
- Other duties assigned by Head of Department
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor Degree, Post-Graduate Diploma or Master Degree in Counselling / Social Work / Psychology (accredited by SAC / SASW / SPS)
- Preferably a registered counsellor with the Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC) or a registered social worker with the Singapore Association of Social Workers or a registered psychologist with the Singapore Psychological Society (SPS).
- At least 5 years of related work experiences with a minimum of 3 years in counselling field
- Experience in working with youth and adults preferred
- Experience in psychological critical incident management will be an advantage
- Proficient in professional counselling approaches and tools to help clients with diverse issues and conditions, including case conceptualisation and assessment.
- Experience in organizing outreach activities tailored to our clientele
