Asia Creative Writing Programme – Call for Visiting Writers
Young and research intensive, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) is ranked among the world’s top universities.
The Asia Creative Writing Programme is a collaboration between The College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CoHASS) at NTU Singapore, and the National Arts Council, Singapore.
The aim of the Programme is to provide a strong foundation in creative writing to promising writers in Singapore, support existing literary talent with sustained specialised development programmes to advance their creative practice, and promote intercultural understanding amongst writers writing in Singapore’s four official languages (Chinese, English, Malay, Tamil).
CoHASS and the National Arts Council seek to appoint outstanding established Visiting Writers to be programme leaders for a period of one to five months during January 2021 to December 2022. Interest in a partial or full term of a single semester should be indicated in the application.
The Visiting Writer will undertake light teaching duties (e.g. one course during their duration of appointment), and/or direct a combination of masterclasses, workshops, individual consultations, mentorships. The Visiting Writer may be required to participate in cultural activities or public engagement events (e.g. readings).
The writers will be hosted at NTU and will work alongside each other within the Asia Creative Writing Programme at the School of Humanities, NTU Singapore.
The appointed writers or translators will have a publication or production history that demonstrates excellence and will be widely regarded as experts or masters in their practice. Visiting Writers should be creative writing practitioners or literary translators working in at least one of Singapore’s four official languages with a strong track record in the areas of instruction of creative writing or literary translation, or facilitation of writer development programmes.
Applicants may be writers working in poetry, fiction, playwriting, screenwriting, creative non-fiction, multimedia writing or any other literary form. Literary translators are also invited to apply.
