Through its engagement with distinctive startups, CV seeks to help Citi and its clients to stay at the cutting edge of innovation as well as to generate outsized returns.
The CV team is seeking a highly motivated individual to (a) develop investment theses, (b) source and execute investments in distinctive fintech startups, (c) monitor and support portfolio companies, and (d) drive commercialization.

In this role, you’re expected to:
Position Scope & Responsibilities:
(a) Develop investment theses and partner with Citi’s businesses and functions
- Develop investment theses leveraging internal and external signals: (i) engage with Citi colleagues and clients to understand their strategic priorities and roadmaps; (ii) conduct market research on emerging industry trends, deal flow, and specific startups; (iii) network with VCs and startup founders; (iv) organize and attend venture capital and startup ecosystem events
- Prepare presentations on relevant industry trends and organize domain sessions and startup workshops for Citi colleagues and clients
- Leverage internal signals by engaging with Citi colleagues and clients to understand their strategic priorities and roadmaps
(b) Source and execute investments in category-leading startups
- Source, screen, and track dealflow proactively (research-based targeted outreach) and reactively (intros from the candidate's own, Citi Ventures’ and Citi’s networks)
- Conduct due diligence on potential investments in collaboration with deal leads
- Create investment decks, models, and deal memos
- Own the deal approval governance process
(c) Monitor and support portfolio companies
- Support the post-investment portfolio monitoring process
- Help portfolio companies align product roadmaps with key industry challenges
(d) Drive commercializations
- Introduce existing and prospective portfolio companies to Citi colleagues and clients for commercialization purposes
- Help navigate Citi with periodic check-ins and/back channeling
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
As a successful candidate, you’d ideally have the following skills and exposure:
Qualifications:
- A total of 5+ years relevant work experience beyond undergrad
- A demonstrated interest in Venture Capital or Technology; minimum 2 years’ experience with a venture capital firm or in a corporate venture setting
- Experience in Investment Banking, Strategy Consulting or Product Management is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree from a top tier program, preferably in an analytical discipline
- Ability to navigate a large financial services company, and engage senior leadership
- Strong relationship management, communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills at all levels within or outside of an organization
- MBA preferred

- Bachelor’s Degree/University degree or equivalent experience
