The Innovation & Enterprise Fellowship Programme (IFP) seeks to grow the pool of deep-tech talent in Singapore with the capabilities to support the commercialisation of deep-tech research and bring nascent technologies to market. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is widely recognised as the top disease burden locally and internationally, accounting for approximately 30% of local deaths in 2015. Research data has revealed that Singaporeans suffer from the onset of CVD approximately 10 years younger as compared to westerners. Furthermore, the 5-year death rate from heart failure is approximately 50%, which is significantly higher than some well-known cancers. However, despite the threat and adverse impact of CVD, global funding for CVD research lags severely behind Cancer research. Comparatively, in 2018, there was only one drug approved by FDA for CVD versus 16 drugs for Cancer. Therefore, there is a vital need for new medicines and treatment approaches for CVD. The Bioinformatics Institute (BII), Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STR) is seeking outstanding faculties in clinical data science research.

The Bioinformatics Institute (BII) is a computational biology research and postgraduate training institute as well as a national resource centre in bioinformatics within the Biomedical Research Council (BMRC) of A*STAR. Our scientists aim to understand the biomolecular mechanisms that underlie biomedical phenomena by developing sophisticated computational methods to support discovery from a secure and sustainable data hub to cross-disciplinary AI/ML analysis and data integration. We analyse a wide spectrum of biological and clinical data, including omics data (biomolecular sequences, expression profiles, epigenetics data), 3D structures of macromolecules, and biological tissue and macroscopic images from local and international academic, hospital and industry collaborators, public resources and also from in-house efforts. Job scope and responsibilities:

1. Heading a laboratory specializing in either one of the following:

a. Quantum Computing for biomedical applications

b. Clinical data hub and clinical data analysis

c. AI and generative models in healthcare applications (e.g. synthetic data)

d. AI in drug discovery

2. Collaborate closely with clinicians and with faculties within the Bioinformatics Institute and within the local ecosystem.

3. Collaborate with industrial partners to translate technologies into the clinics.

Roles & Responsibilities:

A Research fellow position is available in Dr. Anand Andiappan Laboratory at the Singapore Immunology Network (SIgN). The successful candidate will support the research work that focuses on studying allergenomics and immunogenicity in the context of human health. The candidate will work on primary cells from cohorts and cell culture systems towards understanding allergenicity and immune responses. Additional work involves cellular and stimulation assays with flow cytometry and FACS analysis along with imaging by microscopy, and associated data analysis with statistical tested.

We are looking for highly-motivated and enthusiastic individuals with good AI/machine learning/deep learning skills to work on a new initiative on developing an AI approach for scoring of tumor epitope immunogenicity, aiming to better inform the cancer vaccine formulation and predict treatment response.

Successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of bioinformaticians, immunologists, technical scientists, and oncologists to adopt, benchmark, and/or develop novel AI approaches which enable effective integration of multi-omics data (including whole-exome sequencing, RNA sequencing, proteomics, spatial-omics, immuno-peptidomic, and histological image data) for the prediction/ranking of tumor epitope immunogenicity. Successful candidate will have the opportunity to tap into a large pool of biomedical data of various forms and to establish a niche research area in AI-enabled (spatial) multi-omics cancer study.
