Project Overview

SMART CAMP (Critical Analytics for Manufacturing Personalized-Medicine) is a interdisciplinary research programme in Singapore (CREATE international research campus and innovation hub) and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). SMART CAMP addresses key technology bottlenecks in cell therapy manufacturing: (i) critical quality attributes of safe, effective cell therapy products; and (ii) integrated process analytics to monitor and modulate those attributes. While cell therapies are poised to transform healthcare for both the industry and the patient, there remain many outstanding scientific and technical challenges to significant global impact that this R&D programme addresses. This high-impact focus includes measurement and feedback control of processing parameters (process analytic technologies, or PAT) that contribute to cell viability and function during cell proliferation, and the measurement at intermediate and final steps of the cell product properties correlated with positive therapeutic outcomes (critical quality attributes, or CQA).

This interdisciplinary team comprises engineers, biologists, clinicians, manufacturing, and data analytics experts from multiple MIT academic units, and multiple Singapore-based universities, research centres of excellence, and hospitals who are experienced at translational demonstrations of technologies in safety-regulated industries such as cell therapies.

CAMP’s unique, enabling and cross-cutting capabilities include cell and clinical biology, microfluidics, real-time optics and spectroscopies, 3D-printed devices, process analytics, data analytics, and bioinformatics. This programme will demonstrate these approaches required of cell-based personalized medicine through three translational testbeds (three Flagship Projects), ultimately facilitating access for more patients to life-saving, approved cell therapies for currently intractable health challenges. We are seeking one (1) talented postdoctoral researcher to join the Synthetic Biology Translational Research Programme (TRP) at the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Research Group Overview:
Our research group at Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore (NUS) laboratory is primarily focused on developing next-generation methods and multidisciplinary tools for dental and craniofacial research. In particular, we focus on combining the expertise in stem cells, tissue engineering, microfluidics, organ-on-a-chip, 3D bioprinting and non-invasive imaging for regenerative applications.

Responsibilities:
The multi-disciplinary research project focuses on developing microfluidic organ-on-a-chip models and 3D bioprinted constructs for dental applications. We are seeking a motivated and dedicated full-time, research assistant with an understanding of microfluidics, 3D culture, and 3D bioprinting process. This research will be primarily conducted at the Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore (a multi-disciplinary, vibrant campus recognized for its outstanding reputation for translational research).

Primary responsibilities include:
- Microfluidic design and fabrication.

A Research fellow position is available in Dr. Anand Andiappan Laboratory at the Singapore Immunology Network (SIgN). The successful candidate will support the research work that focuses on studying allergenomics and immunogenicity in the context of human health. The candidate will work on primary cells from cohorts and cell culture systems towards understanding allergenicity and immune responses. Additional work involves cellular and stimulation assays with flow cytometry and FACS analysis along with imaging by microscopy, and associated data analysis with statistical tested.

The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with Asst. Prof. Patrick Rebentrost in the intersection of quantum algorithms and optimization, machine learning and/or finance. Sample topics include quantum algorithms for problems in supervised and unsupervised machine learning, algorithmic learning theory, and online learning, and quantum algorithms for financial problems such as portfolio optimization, pricing of financial derivatives, and hedging. The job will include the development of quantum algorithms in these areas, with provable quantum advantages and provable guarantees, when possible, in fault-tolerant models of quantum computation. The job will also include the development of algorithms that are easier to execute on available hardware such as variational and post-variational methods and quantum approximate optimization. Furthermore, the aim is to provide hardware implementations on available devices, comparisons between available hardware providers, and classical simulations of the quantum algorithms. For this purpose, the successful applicant will be granted significant independence concerning their research and receive generous travel funding. They will be expected to contribute to the group, for example by co-supervising student projects and assisting with outreach activities.
