To assist investigators in conducting clinical trials and research according to study protocol, International Conference on Harmonization Guideline for Good Clinical Practice E6 (ICH GCP E6) and other applicable regulatory and ethical requirements as well as IMU Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and hospital policies.

The Asia Research Institute invites outstanding, active researchers from around the world to work on an important piece of Asia-centred research in the social sciences or humanities.

ID TRP and Biochemistry are pooling efforts of prominent scientists from multiple disciplines and committed to human infectious diseases closely relevant to Singapore and the region. Our projects are carried out in close collaboration with Immunology TRP, Synthetic Biology TRP and National University Hospital.

Appointments will be offered on a two-year contract basis, with the potential for extension. Onboarding is anticipated to occur prior to 2025. The group leader will supportively provide customised trainings and grant opportunities for early career researchers.

Purpose of the post

Working in the group of Assistant Professor Qu Kun at the ID TRP and the Department of Biochemistry (https://medicine.nus.edu.sg/bch/faculty/qu-kun/), the Research Fellow will conduct a project aimed at understanding the immune response of respiratory viruses. The Qu lab is funded by the Presidential Young Professorship start-up award, National Medical Research Council Young Individual Research Grant, and Ministry of Education Academic Research Funds. We decipher dynamic and elusive viral infection mechanisms using cryo-electron microscopy, tomography and subtomogram averaging. In 2024, the latest Titan Krios G4 TEM and Arctis cryo-plasma focused ion beam milling SEM are scheduled for installation at the NUS Centre for BioImaging Sciences (CBIS), which will offer us formidable advantages to conduct highly automatic structural studies inside the cell.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Fellow is expected to:

• Carry out scientific research aimed at understanding the dynamics of host-pathogen interactions.
• Introduce and apply a wide range of techniques in molecular biology and immunology to study innate and adaptive immune responses.
• Present scientific work at internal meetings and external conferences.
• Draft scientific manuscripts and prepare high-quality images for publication.
• Contribute to scientific discussions and assist with other duties in the lab.
• Interact and collaborate with other members within the research team, across the programme, and from external groups.
• Maintain high standard of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with scientific integrity, biosafety policies, and procedures.
• Report to and discuss with the PI to ensure the project is performed in accordance with good practice.

Qualifications

The applicant must or should:

Role and Responsibilities

Job Success Requirements

• Master or Ph.D. in Biology/Biological Sciences/Biomedical Sciences or equivalents with at least 3 to 5 years working experience
• Have extensive bench work experience in biological research in mammalian cell culture, genomic & proteomic analysis. The lab techniques require including qPCR, cDNA microarray, western blotting, ELISA assay, flow cytometry, fluorescence imaging;
• Preferably the candidate has knowledge and prior experience in clinical trial management and coordination;
• Proven publication record in international scientific peer-reviewed journals;
