Senior Marine Underwriter, APAC (Cargo)
As an APAC Senior Marine Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in being part of the growth journey of Sompo’s APAC Marine Practice. This will involve evaluating and underwriting large and complex risks for the Region. Assessing new areas of opportunities to achieve our ambition and maintaining a profitable and growing portfolio, and contributing to the overall success of the organization.
Responsibilities include:
- Focus on new business production and renewal retention across a high-growth Marine portfolio
- Underwrites all accounts in accordance with underwriting guidelines and individual underwriting authority
- Make strategic underwriting decisions on large and complex accounts, factoring in market conditions/trends and underwriting guidelines
- Ensure underwriting processes are diligently complied with, focusing on key account information is captured on policy administration systems
- Monitor performance of existing accounts/portfolio, and identify/recommend areas for improvement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Clients to enhance business retention and new business development
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to explore cross-sell opportunities where appropriate
- Contribute to the development and enhancements of underwriting guidelines, processes, pricing models and new product offerings (including Freight Forwarders’ Liability product)
- Provide technical underwriting guidance to junior members of the team
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Relevant 5-8 years’ experience in marine cargo underwriting/broking, with exposure to large & complex risks across the APAC region
- Experience in Multinational Marine Programs and/or Project Cargo beneficial
- Ability to work effectively when in a pressured environment
- Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities
- Detail-oriented and organized disposition
- Competent in all Microsoft Product suites, with strong excel skills
